Funks Rio 125 Endeavour!

Results from today...

SG: 1.023
pH: 8
Nitrite: 0.05
Nitrate: 5
Ammonia: 0.25 (still cloudy)

Question now is what CUC should I get? I've got access to the usual mail order places as well as Abyss, Oasis & a pets at home but am unsure what I'm after!

I deffinetly want some hermit crabs but i'm not sure whether to go Electric Blue, Dwarf Blue or Scarlet Reef (based on what aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk have in stock).

Indeed, they are asterina (just what Fishy has been longing for, he will have a fit when he sees that photo :p) they are good guys and keep your live rock from becoming overly clogged by coraline.

And again Harry is right, the rust stuff is diatoms, usually a sign you are close to the end of your cycle and your nitrates are high, so you just need that nitrIte to disappear, then its a big water change, wait 24 hrs test and if nitrate is below 10 you are good to go :kana:

Cuc I would get:

5 cerith snails

5 nassarius snails

1 true mexican turbo (cool guy they grow pretty big around a golf ball I think)

If you still have more algae then get some normal turbo snails say 2?

3 hermit crabs (red or blue if you think you need more get more later on)

Later on 2-3 shrimps like say 1 peppermint shrimp and 2 cleaner shrimp?

Other cool little guys are tuxedo urchins they eat algae and coraline stuff (purple stuff that grows on your rock too much is bad as it stops the rocks from breathing)

Cheers guys :)

On a bit of a bad note the mushroom looks like it's taken a turn for the worse. It's weird, it was fully extended when I got in today, looked really really happy then all of a sudden it's retracted and is looking rather closed and green tinged :( hoping it's not on it's way out.

Edit - with regard to the water change will I be looking at a 50% change?

Had to post a link to the image like that, forum doesn't appear to like links directly from google picassa.

Yes around 50% :good:
That coral doesnt look good but those type of corals tend to sulk a lot :good:

Also i've noticed this rust coloured stuff start appearing on one side of the tank this morning?

why not me!? :sad::grr:

You will be surprised what you will find have you looked late at night with a red torch?
Also as soon as your tank is cycled I looked at my tank after a few hours when the lights were off and there were hundreds of pods :good:

Don't look at it, it will give you nightmares  I have loads of the little pods

Mine came from a very established tank mate, I've been fighting nasties for days too! It was only out of saltwater for about 3mins then was 'swiftly' rolled down the motorway to my tank.

Jumped the gun a bit with the mushroom (again!)... It's opened up again now!!

SG: 1.023-1.024
pH: 8
Nitrite: 0 < 0.025
Nitrate: 5-10
Ammonia: 0.25 (still cloudy but less so than the other days, thinking its closer to 0)

So I'm looking good for my CUC :)

About the big water change, can I do it in two halves?

The Rio 125 I have took about 90-110 litres in total but the largest container I have is 35 litres :(

35L will be fine i did 25L your nitrate isnt that high any way.
