Funks Rio 125 Endeavour!

Well your cycle has started, now the fun begins!!

Should I be concerned about the drop in pH?

Also I've seen a couple very very small white star fish looking things emerge, another green looking one with only three bits making him and what I think I’ve id'd as a couple of "Fancy Tiger Striped".

pH will change throughout the day mate so im guessing you tested at different times of day?

Try and test at the same time each day :good:

Temp is running pretty steady now at between 25-26 degrees, test results today are as follows...

pH: 8
SG: 1.024-25 - Can't really tell, think I may need to recalibrate the refractometer, may have lost a little through the heat I suppose
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 0.05
Nitrate: 2.5-5.0

Thanks Chris, yeah I would have tested the 8.3 much earlier in the day I think. Thought i'd post some pictures first today as its the first 'clear' day i've had!

I had a number of little white starfish making their way around the tank but they seem to have gone now

Bit concerned that my levels haven't changed much since yesterday?

edit - just noticed i messed up the nitrate figure.

Just noticed a load of these starting to spawn around the rock? Should I be worried?!

Well after some digging I think they may be Anemonia Majanos which looking at it aren't good :(

They're already growing up the stalk of the mushroom and are rigt across the tank on different bits of rock. I've read that you can get rid by keeping the tank dark, haven't had this confirmed yet though, I'm leaving the lights on for 12 hours a day at the moment which will no doubt not help.

Well every bit of rock has been out one at a time over the last 4-5 hours and fried with the soldering iron... I'm praying that I got them all. Will invest in some treatment and have it ready so in the event i do see some coming back I can get them.

I'm really really hopeing thats the problem sorted though :(

edit - forgot my pre frying test results.....

SG: 1.024-25
pH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 0.05
Nitrate: 2.5

No movement since yesterday then.

SG: 1.024
pH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 0.05
Nitrate: 5

Hey Funkoid :D

I have the same tank as you and its great to start with until you want to go bigger
I havnt been on here for ages and the site has changed  Lets hope you got rid of all those majano anemones

Just killed another two or three off this morning, think I've got them all, that said, I thought I had the other night then found another massive one purely by luck this morning..... Getting mighty tired of them.

Still keeping an eye out for them but so far so good since yesterday. Forgot to post my results last night.

7th...

Sg:1.022->24
ph: 8
Nitrite: 0.1-0.2
Nitrate: 5-10
Ammonia: 0.25 (still cloudy)

8th...

Sg:1.022->23
ph: 8
Nitrite: 0.05
Nitrate: 5-10
Ammonia: 0.25 (still cloudy)

my ammonia is always cloudy :good: im using salifert  At first i thought the ammonia wouldnt go away but after 2 weeks i decided to add my cuc and its been fine. I think you are fine if its been at least a week.

edit: once the nitrite zero that is

Thanks Harry, going to leave it another week at least, good to know you were using salifert as that's what i'm testing with.

Been meaning to ask about these little starfish that appear every now and again, I've heard some are predators? Is there anything that will eat them and keep their numbers down?

Also i've noticed this rust coloured stuff start appearing on one side of the tank this morning?

Those star fish are good I think.

The rust looking thing is algae which is good as it means your tank is almost cycled :good:
Once it has then your cuc will take care of it.
