Football Banter/discussion Thread

well im off to watch norwich v newcastle today. unforunately my ticket is in the norwich bit, so i cant really celebrate every time the toon score  , but its better than nothing i guess. my mate gave me his season ticket, and he has got a pukka seat so i shouldnt moan. im so confident i made a bet with my mate last night, toon win and i win, draw or norwich win and he wins.

i predicted 3-1 toon, Ba with 2 (1 peno) and cabaye.

Only the Arsenal fan has a leg to stand on, Liverpool didn't qualify for Europe full stop

:S like we wanted to be in the Europa league anyway lol, rather concentrate on domestic comps bar the champs league, had a awful start to the season last season, more of a lack of faith in Roy from the players, Gerrard missing a penalty on purpose etc, youtube it, look what happened when Kenny came back, still managed 6th, and of course Liverpool fans have a leg to stand on when its to do with Man u lol.

Also i strongly disagree Liverpool is in shambles atm...lol, start of last season yes, but to be fair, we battered Man U was just unlucky, Battered Chelsea twice away and Arsenal, more then held our own against City who won what vs Man u? theres only been a few of the matches this season i've been unhappy with, results aside, last owners ruined the club the turn around is happening. Just need all the hitting the posts to turn into goals and this stupid thing against 'lower' clubs to go away and we will have a happy ending to this season. Carroll was maybe a mistake will make my own mind up at end of season though, was mostly profit from Torres anyway so just a bad investment of profit, maybe.

Also don't tar all fans with the same brush, my step dads united and i ain't said a word too him, as he doesn't too me, each club has fans who take the Michael more than others and get involved in the banter rather than realizing whats actually happening on the pitch.

What's your opinion on Suarez? How long do you think he's going to be banned for?

have to say, from what ive seen citeh fans are at least being very philisophical about it. their first attempt, hardest group, and of the other 8 groups, their points total would have got them qualified from 7 of them - bad luck. they have a big enough and good enough squad to easily win the europa league as long as they take it seriously. Utd are going to be trophyless, without doubt. i was saying to my utd fan mate today, i know its only xmas, but fergie needs to write this season off with regards to winning anything. much like england at the euros, fergie needs to use this season to blood his youngsters and get them reguarly playing. getting cleverly playing every game could improve him to the point where fergie maybe doesnt need to spend 30 million on a new CM. same with replacing creaky old Rio - with vidic out now, get smalling and jones playing every game possible together at CB - ok so they might get shown up for their inexperience a bit, but we all know fergie and england will reap the benefits, again it will stop him having to splash out another 30m once rio retires.

ive got a feeling evans will get in before smalling does though, and that is absolutely criminal. evans is pure sunday league.

City fans are looking on the bright side - at least we've avoided Barcelona!

Fergiscum can't write the season off, he has to be successful as that's the only way the Glazers can pay the interest on the bond. They have to play city in the cup in January, so big chance of getting beat again, out of another cup. It's not even guaranteed for united to qualify for the champs league.

My opinion on him is he needs to stop being such a nark. Needs to grow up a bit. Ent going into trying to predict the future i aint mystic meg. But be honest, anybody would want him in their starting 11, his behavior aside. He's learnt from his diving over dramatization hope he will learn from this.

one of my mates at work, a Utd fan, was very decent about the whole thing, except when Livepool fans started ripping him. as you say, they arent exactly covering themselves in glory right now. they're not in europe - even stoke and fulham are in europe - and they still arent even above the mighty toon in the league.  and they bombed 35 million in a much less useful way than Sir Alex would have done  . if i was a liverpool fan id be keeping quiet.

as a man utd fan in merseyside i agree with that LFC fans using this europe exit and the city defeat to paper over the fact their club is a shambles at the moment they are going sideways desite all the cash spent and how long is it 21 yrs?????

Vidic is a huge loss but I dont agree Rios finished hes still a class act whos body is creaking and as we saw with rio and vidic being together they just dont let goals in. Evans is rubbish so for me get Jones back in defence leave smalling on the right and invest in midfield in January

as for england in the summer I cannot stick Walcott what a useless player in my opinion. Adam Johnson I really rate and I disagree with Terry he has to go and Id rather see him in there than Lescott who played well against spain but for me not dependable. Id still take lampard as hes still a class act but hope that Oxlade who looks a more intelligent player than walcott gets the chance to shione between now and then and could be the wild card style pick for the eursos

Gta disagree with Walcott, prob the best moment in the last few years as an England fan was the victory against Croatia where Walcott scored a hattrick, deserved to go to the World Cup, but maybe he’s lucky he didn’t. This season I think he’s finally starting to fulfil potential and has an end product….If Adam Johnson got games, then he’d be in my team, or close to it, but he isn’t, hardly gets a game at Citeh.

I dislike the fact that Terry is the leader of our nation, this guy similar to Rooney is a thug, divides opinion in a big negative way, currently has allegations of racist taunting on his shoulders, which it’s really not hard to believe are true, is a cynical type player, and the complete opposite in my mind of greats like Bobby Moore. When it comes to his ability as a player, he is a last-ditch defender, no real sense of anticipation, so slow on the turn, this season the press are blaming Luiz for Chelsea’s defensive lapses, but that’s just half the story. With Terry at the helm, it’s hard for me to get behind a group of thugs.

Wouldn’t necessarily take Lescott, but wouldn’t touch Terry or Cahill with a barge pole and they’re increasingly looking like 1st choice….Smalling, Jones, Rio, King, Dawson, Jagielka, Cahill (+someone good) would be better picks imo.

hahahah just saw that.

was a great game to watch, except im a newcastle fan. to be honest, if my teams going to lose, id rather it was against my local team than anybody else, especially if it helps them stay in the premiership. 3 times ive seen toon at carrow road - 3 losses  perhaps i shouldnt go.

as for the game, the first goal came from a corner, that from my seat i could guarantee didnt go out. watching motd later proved this. had norwich not have been given that underserved corner, newcastle would have been 1-0 up at half time.

however, going into the game i knew we would be missing steven taylor, and coloccini was only 50-50 to play. this knocked my confidence a bit, because that means we started the game with 4 right backs across the defence     then, the team lists were read out, and Grant Holt was starting. Well done Paul Lambert - very quick to realise that a defence that 2 games earlier was the best in the league, was now decimated and patched up with our 4th choice RB at CB, and our LB playing RB. Holt was never, ever going to lose a header or physical battle against the CB's we had to play, and it showed because norwich scored from 4 set pieces. 3 headers !!!, and a scrambled goal from the corner that shouldnt have been.

Ba scored 2 peach goals, and newcastle werent all that bad, norwich deserved it, but i think 3-2 would have been a fairer reflection on the game.

Here's my take on the JT and Suarez race row, I don't know how they managed to charge Suarez as there is no video evidence. Secondly, John Terry if found guilty of racism should be sacked, if I made racially abusive comments to a member of the public whilst working I'd be sacked, so why shouldn't he?

He has been done for it today i think mate?

Sorry, just seen that he is to face charges for it...

Think the whole case is stupid, Evra has a chip on his shoulder said to one of the ref's in that match 'your booking me cos im black' when he got a yellow *yawn* n couldn't beat suarez on the pitch so pulled out the race card, Negrito or Negro isnt a racial slur in Uruguay its only because it sounds similar to a certain word we all know, even if Suarez did mean it offensively nobody heard anything that was said in the box when Evra got aggy then he told Suarez 'don't touch me, south american' to which Suarez replied 'Porque, Negro?' So no evidence for Suarez saying anything before being racially abused himself, so surely Evra should have the same punishment? Evra even said he didn't think Suarez was a racist which was accepted by the FA which said the same, so why all this? FA where out to get Suarez, 8 match ban is ridiculous just can't get my head round it with the lack of evidence and the cultural differences, hoping Liverpool appeal it.

Hes been charged by the police, now the FA will charge him, will be interesting i think 'Black #30###' from a Englishman would surely deserve a HEFTY ban and fine.

didn't write the word put two **'s in :S

friend of mine pointed out, if you went to watch agame, and got done for racial abuse, you get banned from football stadia for 3 years, no exception.

why a different rule for those we're there to watch ?

personally, anything that irritates that anooying little cheating suarex is fine in my eyes. id prefer if it wasnt something as hardcore as racism, but knowing hes at home with his silly little rabbit teeth whinging like a girl makes me chuckle........

Lol, So you point out how bad racism is then go on to trash somebodies personal appearance? Like your perfect :look: Racism and pointing out somebodies personal appearance faults are pretty much the same thing, if you break it down and think about it.

Also reality check, most footballers 'cheat' Suarez was just pointed out for a few bad games for simulating and doing something alot of people would do put in the same situation, regarding the handball.

Really? We need to get something straight here, you will get away with calling someone who is a close friend a negrito, but you will not get away with calling it to an acquaintance, especially one of African stock. It is racist in the UK. It's like when he bit that player...'but..but it's OK in Transylvania' it doesn't wash. He's guilty accept it and move on.

LFC’s statement and (not all my own) thoughts:

'We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone...'
-Suarez has already admitted to calling Evra ‘something his teammates at Manchester call him’

'It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible - certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.'
- Evra has been caught up in racism rows twice before this incident. On neither of those occasions did Evra make the accusation.

'It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said 'I don't think that Luis Suarez is racist'. The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.’
-Don’t have to be a racist to use racist language.

‘Luis himself is of a mixed race family background as his grandfather was black...He has played with black players and mixed with their families whilst with the Uruguay national side and was Captain at Ajax Amsterdam of a team with a proud multi-cultural profile, many of whom became good friends.'
-lol @ best friends argument

'We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult.'
- who heard this then? Pot kettle black.

JT - makes it very difficult for me to support my nation.
