Football Banter/discussion Thread

Negrito or Negro isnt a racial slur in Uruguay its only because it sounds similar to a certain word we all know, even if Suarez did mean it offensively nobody heard anything that was said in the box when Evra got aggy then he told Suarez 'don't touch me, south american' to which Suarez replied 'Porque, Negro?' So no evidence for Suarez saying anything before being racially abused himself, so surely Evra should have the same punishment? Evra even said he didn't think Suarez was a racist which was accepted by the FA which said the same, so why all this? FA where out to get Suarez, 8 match ban is ridiculous just can't get my head round it with the lack of evidence and the cultural differences, hoping Liverpool appeal it.

Really? We need to get something straight here, you will get away with calling someone who is a close friend a negrito, but you will not get away with calling it to an acquaintance, especially one of African stock. It is racist in the UK. It's like when he bit that player...'but..but it's OK in Transylvania' it doesn't wash. He's guilty accept it and move on.

Yeh i understand that, although in Luis's mind it wasn't as bad as its been made out to be, because of how we look at 'racism' in this country, not saying he should get no punishment but due to no real evidence of racial abuse just the fact he used a natively accepted word which we consider to be really bad because it points out hes black and people knowing hes not actually racist the punishment he got is a bit much IMO, Evra should have gotten something for 'pointing out' he was south American, same thing no? Dunno see how appeal goes he has the full support of the Uruguayan FA aswell as the club.

whether you like it or not, whether its wrong or right, you have to accept that there are double standards where racism is concerned. i could walk down the street shouting "hey whiteboy" all day long and nobody would batter an eyelid. soon as you say something percieved as racist towards people of african/black descent, you're a criminal. at the end of the day its common sense that you simply just dont open your mouth and say anything related to it. yes, techincally pointing out suarez is south amaerican is the same thing, but we all know in the real world its not seen as offensive in the same light as comments regarding african/black descent/nationalities.

Not sure if being called South American is a derogatory term but tonight I will go out to the bar and find out (I take my research seriously and it is Christmas :hey: )

Well said moochy. Totally agree.

Let's be careful though incase this thread gets locked as it has been a great thread so far.

Just dont understand the steer towards the blacks cos its the whole white vs black thing, Suarez is from a country that term isnt offensive but they wont take that argument, maybe it wasn't as 'common sense' for Suarez vs a person whos from a part of the world who wants to stamp out supposedly all racism. But yeh i kno i've seen whites called white boy by blacks when they say black boy back its all ohhh, dnt get it. I ent racist or anything atall but just think its diff circumstances.

Well no its not, but saying 'Don't touch me, you south american' in that manner still just as bad as somebody used to using the term 'Negro' or 'Negrito' not as a racial slur because its diff where he came from, hes mixed race anyway grandfather was black seriously doubt any serious intent was made when he used it, compared to a white person calling a black person it.

But yeh double standards.

N btw no ones getting angry over this no reason topic should be closed, just discussing it

I don’t think it’s double standards at all….racism is racism, no matter who it’s aimed at. If someone referred to race in derogatory terms with intent to offend, it’s racism, where’s the double standards?

In any country, minorities will be prejudiced against more often then the majority, it’s the easiest punch to throw, history tells us that much.

It’s also not just the word Suarez used that offended Evra, it’s the manner he used, repeated the same word x times.

You don’t have to be a racist to use racist language or intent.

this guy sum's it up pretty well http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20111223/cleisure/cleisure4.html

Anyway,moving on.....

Just watched MOTD,Fair play to Blackburn, great goalkeeping, shot cleared off the line, fought well for a draw...

I have decided that Andy Carroll couldn't hit a cow's #14### with a banjo...still,4 more days to go,please let's take the loss and get rid...

But,amazingly from out of nowhere for 20 mins comes STEVIE G!!!! wasn't expecting that,LFC have been keeping his recovery very quiet..
