I thought I'd post a few pics of my Fluval Spec which I started to setup a few days ago. I'll add a couple of better pics soon.

Current Flora is some Christmas moss and Java fern hopefully will be adding more soon (any suggestions?).

Current Fauna is a Zebra Nerite and a golden rabbit snail which will be joned by 10 RCS in a couple of weeks time.

Any comments/suggestions welcome.

Nice mate, you've done a great job of covering the wood with the moss. It will look excellent when its started to grow!

Well done!

Thanks for the comment mate. I was really happy with the way the moss turned out.

Yeah it looks great. But it does look a little like java moss rather than christmas moss. :look:

Yeah it doesn't look all that Christmasy I got it off another member on here who said it started off as German christmas moss but was a bit of a mix now. It is a different colour to the other Java moss I have though much lighter green, the moss on the pebble in the pics is Java moss as you can see it looks a lot brighter.

I'm a big fan of the mossy look so might cover the pebbles at the base of the wood too, maybe in another different type of moss.

I would have used weeping moss for the branches personally. I tend to keep mine short though as it is is probably the best kind for staying neat. I would use christmas moss as a carpet of the floor then maybe replace the fern with something like Cryptocoryne Wendtii Brown or Tropica to give a variation to all the green. Would be a little shrimp haven!! :D

I'll see how it goes if it looks too messy and is a pain to keep neat I might swap to weeping. I might give flame moss a go at the front on the pebbles.

Here's a few more pics from various different angles. I don't think my Nerite likes the hardscape he keeps moving the wood and pebbles :)

I've posted this in another thread on here but thought I'd stick it in here too so I've got a sort of picture journal all in one place.

I went to P@H earlier and picked up some Crypts 'Tropica' and 'Petchii' I then got home and realised I didn't have a clue what I was doing or exactly where I wanted them, but after some messing about and a bit of cursing this is what I ended up with;

What do you think? Does it look too crowded now? I'm hoping the 'Tropica' at the back will grow up nicely to fill the void between the pieces of wood.

I can't decide whether I don't like it or just need to get used to it.

Looking good, though I preferred it before you added the crypts.
I've been given one of this tanks & didn't have a clue what to do with it, so will be following this thread for inspiration

Thanks for the comments, I might try thinning the crypts out a bit and see what they look like when they finish melting, I can always put them in my other tank if I decide I don't like it.

IMO i'd forget about the Tropica and just leave the Petchii in.Maybe move the Java Fern back to where it was before? When it and the moss fills out, you'll have a cracking little tank

I've removed some of the Tropica to thin things out a bit and think it is looking much better now,what do you think?, I haven't got time to get the camera out now so here are a few phone pics;

and here's what I've done with the bits I took out also put some hairgrass in there, hopefully it will look pretty good if it all grows.

Looks much better. I think you just over did it when you first added them. Wendtii Brown would probably stay smaller though so keep that in mind should this start to grow a little too large.

Crypts always look messy when first added, but once they settle in and turn their leaves for maximum light they look alot more natural in their appearance.

Now all you need to do is get some more moss for the two stones at the front as they're standing out like a pair of sore thumbs. :D
