I dug out 2 bowls that have been in the back of my closet for years, and got them cleaned up. I found a tupawear (sp?) lid that fits one of them perfectly. I've cut holes in it and it's all ready.
We don't have any lids to fit the other one, and so I made one out of aluminum foil. It doesn't stay on well at all though. A betta could very easily bump it off.
What else could I make a lid out of?

I use cd spindles that I cut most of the tube in the middle off, that leaves a hole for air. I can get a picture for you later in the evening if you like.

Some of the things I have used for lids are
  • Coasters, I have ones that are made out of tile, so they are great for the escape artists that want to knock their lid off
CD's. Old CD's work great, they fit right in the lid of the bowl, and there is already a hole for feeding and air
    CD lids
Saran Wrap. I used Saran Wrap on a 5G tank until I could get a lid, what an experience that was
All the bowls I use are from WalMart. It really depends on the bowl, but almost anything that can go over top the hole will work as a lid.

I just use the craft mesh that I use to make my dividers. Although I suppose this might not work if you have someone who really really wants to get out. None of my boys or girls have ever tried *knock on wood* so up to this point the mesh works fine.

I think cd's would also do good because you could put it on the non reflecting side most of the time and when you wanna take a picture they will see there reflection and flare so you could get them at there best :D

How about a hair net fastened on with an elastic band? Would that work? I though of using this if i ever get a betta for a bowl i have.
