Eheim 2213 Value ?

Failed in what way mate? Lost their suction? I have this issue with the ones for my heaters.... :/

A few years ago I changed from a Ehiem 2213 to a Ex700 and (touch wood) haven't had any issues. The one major thing I like about the ex700 is how easy it is to clean. My only concern is the suckers on the pipe kit failed after 12 months so had to buy some after market ones.

Thanks for the reply. Did you notice a decent increase in flow and water quality, enough to make the change worthwhile? Thanks for the info minnnt. Looks like secondhand ex1200 is favourite.

No probs Mooch. :) There is usually a few knocking around and they don't command the unwarranted higher price of Fluvals.

how tall is the ex1200 with pipework ? could be a limiting factor for me, my tank isnt very far off the ground. i have just under 22 inches of room to fit the filter in.

Good tip I had was to wash them with white vinegar to remove the limescale buildup that causes them to lose their suction, of course if they've actually persished....

Lol! To the top of the hose adaptor its about 21.5" obviously the hoses are bendable.

balls.

i dont want to put the connectors under any stress if the pipework is butted up against the bottom of the tank stand. thats bad news. without having one in my hands its hard to envisage whether its a problem that can be got round. might have to settle for the ex700. i wonder if i can raise the table a bit..........

how much room would i need to have so that the pipes naturally fitted in the space, without being bent unnaturally or butted up against the underside of the stand ?

There are a few mods that you can do to the 2213 to give better output, which may be worth trying before changing filters, swapping the 2213 impeller for a 2215 will give a better flow, removing the spray bar again increases flow and by adding a pre-filter it will help to give crystal clear water

im open to all ideas. what is a pre-filter ? going by the name, i assume just a filter of some description that contains lots of fine sponge meshy floss stuff to remove the 'bits' in the water ? that then runs into the eheim for proper filtering ? if its cheap enough to put to do these mods i might aswell, would be interesting to see the difference. though i would suspect i'll end up with a bigger filter anyway.

Nice tips Davo!!

You would probably be looking at another 3-4". The hose adaptors have spinning taps so you can move them sideways. The hose is pliable, but not as freely as the Fluval ribbed hoses are. They're more like very thick garden hose.

hmmm i dont think i could push to an extra 4 inches, not really doable where the tank is. looks like the ex1200 is not an option

ok then one more optin - the all pond solution stuff. ive seen lots of threads about these things, but never really read any of them. wats the score ? a 1400 lph for 60 quid sounds tasty, and its plenty short enough to fit under my tank, somehow. so whats the catch ?

Such a shame! Try the mods that davo suggested then.

These are the pre-filters, (basically aqua balls run by the external filter)

Thinking again i think its only the 2217 that fits the 2215,
The 2213 impellor chamber might be smaller if i remember correctly

right i see. would adding one reduce my flow ? ive not seen anything like that for sale while ive been looking. also, i went for an external to get equipment out of my tank in the first place.... worth considering as a cheap option though.
