ok so i just went to a couple of lfs, and the only things in the price range of the tetratecs and APS was 'superfish' filters.
the quality seemed decent, i asked a lot of questions, but to be honest i know the guy who runs the shop is a bit economical with the truth, to say the least. really i just wanted to measure them up. i checked out a 1000 LPH one (mid-range), rated for 400l tanks, it was 70 quid with all the gubbins, and would fit nicely. the inside was nicely designed, with 3 baskets and a 'cartridge' of 3 different sponges, and everything felt pretty sturdy. the only thing that put me off, other than re-checking what was a similar price and not knowing the brand, was the outlet pipe. heres the filter
superfish filter
basically, this is how it is at the moment with the eheim :
its the best i can do with regards to surface agitation, even with my bodge bit of pipe to lever the outlet up a bit more. the outlet that came with the superfish filter would mean i would lose my surface agitation, or as it was on a swivel, the outlet would be pumping water pretty much down the centre of the tank, but be nearer the surface. ideally i want the water to be running along the back of the tank, to the inlet pipe at the opposite end, but still agitating the surface. so, couple of questions :
the filter brand - whats the score with these ?
those with TT and APS - will the bits with the filters give me a decent solution with regards to agitation and inlet position. the pipe has to come through the existing hole really.
apologies for the continued deliberation, i appreciate your patience guys.
so these are now my 3 budget options - TT EX700, the superfish one, and the an APS one, either the 1400lph or 1000lph. Walkers101, i tried to pm you to get the size of the APS 1400 plumbed up, but it wouldnt let me pm you. my only other concern is whether going from my 2213 to something of the size im looking at will make much difference in the real world, regardless of the stats.
