Eeeee! New Tank

Show me a picture of the sand and the algae when you get your camera settled. I'm very curious about the algae.

Just goes to show they don't need an anemone. :)

Yeah, dont want a nem, would be a holy nightmare! God, if it got into the back filter champer.... the tank would be wiped out :S i dont trust the nems...

Whatever it is causing the algae, i think is the same thing that caused all our bubbletips to go mad and repeatedly split. I mean... they were good sized bubbletips but i think we had 6-7 of them and every single one split within a three week period and one has since split again. Not that im complaining! Its fascinating as i have never seen it happen before but the chances of them all feeling the need to split at the same time? Bit odd... something in the water! Hence i thought maybe excess nutrients. Only thing that really coinsided was our skimmer was down for a week.

I still have my pet snail and peaches the peach coloured fluffy flatworm/nudibranch thing in a tank on the system LOL dont know what the sluggy thing eats though :S other than zoas i think LOL

Its diatom algae identical to this:

Show me a picture of the nudibranch. If it is a zoa eating nudibranch, you need to stop being so nice and keeeeeeel eeeeeet!!! Keeeeeel eeeeeeet good and DEAD!

Protein skimmer down for a week can cause a lot of problems. As for the diatoms, any good CUC can really do some nice work on that. What is your CUC?

Glad you don't want a nem. They are very overrated, IMO. Besides, I don't like impeding my flow while one tries to decide where they want to go in my tank.

Got cruddy phone photos

New clowns acclimatising...

Cant decide which one to nab! The funky purple one as i havent seen one like it before of the one on far left because i love the purple/yellow contrast....

featherdusters.jpg

I like the purple one too. Some people don't like feather dusters, but I'm always happy when I see them in my tanks. I have a few small hitch hiker ones and they are always very cool. My favorite is a banded one that I have that's about an inch extended. Came with my yumas.

PS: If it were me, I'd kill the nudibranch, but it's up to you.

Maybe I should set up a Fluval Spec Nudibranch species tank LOL because that would be hilarious! Its just fascinating little critter and it handfeeds LOL

Our seahares handfeed on dried seaweed and they really adore blanket weed i nab out the ponds as a treat. I thought i would offer some to the tiny nudibranch and it nibbled but preferred prawn.

I added another two turbo snails and pretty big ones at that. Also added another two good sized scarlet hermits too.

So now i have:

2 x Common Clowns
4 x Scarlet Hermits
4 x Turbo Snails
2 x Nassarius Snails

I also now have an insane colony of Stomatella LOL i cant believe how many we have on the system and now in my tank haha. Usually on systems they dont survive so well and hide in the coral vat but i keep finding them zipping accross the glass and sand and they sleep in the corners of all the tanks.

And lots and lots and lots of fan worms! On the liverock, i mean, its really mature liverock... but i counted up to 50 on the base rock to the left before i got bored counting and they are all over all of the rocks. Some are starting to colour up too! The biggest is still only 1cm feathers but is gonig scarlet (brighter than the feather duster i showed) with bright yellow mouth parts in the middle.

There is so much life in there... so many copepods! Though not surprising as i put a pack of live copepods in there near the beginning and i think they are multiplying in there! Will be fantastic for my sailfin blennies i really want! :)

The clowns are actually hilarious!! They dont know what to do with themselves! They cant decide where to host, sometimes they host the top rhodactis, sometimes they host the bare bit of rock between the zoas and the lower rhodactis and sometimes they host both seperately.... seem to switch homes every half hour or so.

And whenever i or a customer walk past the tank (to get into the fishroom) the lunge at the glass and headbutt it frantically trying to get food.

Seeing a kid scared silly by "nemo" lunging at his face..... PRICELESS! I almost like them :shifty:

And better news still? Found camera charger! Going to give the tank a clean tomorrow, its so much better since i put the Rowaphos in there but still getting mucky. Am going to be setting up a phosphate reactor on the system in the new year too now.

Will get some nice photos tomorrow :)

Maybe you should just kill the nudibranch and save the spec for something better. ;)

I'll tell you a story in my 4g journal. You gotta go read it.

But...

I'm looking forward to the pictures...

Had a massive oops today and so never got time to get photos or even touch the tank... really hacked off... i didnt notice my colleague had made me a coffee and put it on the marine system next to me and as i turned i knocked it into the system..

Queue me screaming my head off and using my hands to cover two inlets and two outlets for the tanks and got colleague to siphon out the two tanks quickly... loads went through the system but other than sending skimmer into over drive and having a hyperactive and very hungry little BTA that was in one of the tanks that got coffee in.

Argh i'm so wound up and stressed and i dont even want it to be xmas

OMG, you spilled coffee into a tank? Holy cow!!

Hope everything is ok.

L

It wasnt the Kent Marine tank lol, or i would have been having kittens!

It was the shop system but thankfully we got most of the coffee out before it went through the system and with a good water change and its about 1500L of water so thankfully no lasting problems...

Though bizarrely, the bubbletip that got a dose of coffee is suddenly thriving!? It was small and depressed as it wa half of one that decided to split and it was the smaller 'half' though more like third.

It was all small and wouldnt eat and depressed... now its three times the size and has eaten a prawn LOL and its moved from crouching in the corner to being open and stuck to a bit of liverock...

Phhht and some people say coffee is bad for you!!

Im a bit more chilled today, though mainly because i feel naff, am working on Xmas eve so will get photos then! :)

Caffeine can work wonders...

Glad the shop system wasn't destroyed.

Look forward to the pictures

Also forgot to say I lost my purple Mithrax :( he was doing such anawesome job and had got huge!

He got stuck shedding :-( one of his claws was stuck and the other had snapped off and it meant he was stuck half and half out his shed....

Didnt help he was under the big rhodactis, my coleague saw him and i think he'd died a day or so beforehand and hence another algae bloom even though the new CUC and rowaphos has been doing such a great job.

Really gutted now! I dont know if i want another mithrax, maybe if i see a nice red one...
