Dwarf Puffer Tank Journal

Hmm, IDK.

He's taking two pellets in the morning and one in the afternoon, which I think is how I will keep feeding him on :)
He has also learnt that the tweezers mean food

Found something slightly concerning today, he seemed to be eating algae of the side of the tank  , I've never heard of a Betta doing this, especially since they are carnivorous!

Does he spit it out afterwards, or is he actually eating it?  Maybe he's just curious! :)  After all, how would you investigate something if you didn't have opposable thumbs?

But in all seriousness, I'm no betta expert, but I've heard fiber isn't good for their tummies.  Maybe keep an eye on that while we wait for a betta expert's input.

I don't see him spitting it out, though he might not be even eating it at all, he just seems to be pecking at algae spots on the glass (the result of me having the light on too long).

I'll see if I can talk to WB over the weekend on chat.

Was talking to WB, she thinks that he is probably eating micro fauna off of it :) Which is good!

That's good!  One of my favorite things about tanks is that it's not just fish + water, it's an ecosystem!  And like an ecosystem, there are so many things about it we have yet to discover!

That is so true!

Giving him bloodworms tomorrow, will update on how that goes :)

Forgot to update......

Bloodworms went well, probably fed him a few too many, but he liked them :)

I will have to put a sponge over the filter inlet, as I notice one of his pectoral fins got caught in the filter, and is now practically shredded :-(

Yesterday, I heard that my LFS wasn't ordering DPs in anymore, was thinking score, glad I got a betta instead of waiting.
Then, today, I went into my other LFS and what did they have? Only 10 lil puffers swimming around in one of their tanks :-(
So annoyed >.<
I do love my lil guy, but I kind of wish I had waited LoL.
Should hopefully be rehoming my danios soon though so that should free up a tank. Will just have to wait.

In the meantime, I'll post videos of my DP feeding, just to torment you. :)

Hi Blondielovesfish!

I see you have a coconut in your tank, which I think looks so cute!

I was wondering whether you had to prepare it in any special way? Just worried about any sharp edges for my betta.

Thanks x

Thanks :)

I followed THIS guide, except I never boiled it, I just poured boiling water over it and left it to soak over night. I haven't had any problems :) I also found it easier to chisel out the flesh after sun drying it for a day.

Came home today from my sisters wedding to find that Zeus's (yup, its final, his name is Zeus :D ) tail has been teared :-(

I got some photos, but photobucket isn't uploading them, just keeps saying failed.

Worst thing.... I'm out of dechlorinater  Won't be able to get some more for awhile either, as I have some family coming to stay until Wednesday.

What signs do I have to look out for with fin rot?
Anything I can do to prevent fin rot, other than water changes?

:-( it appears that Zeus has started tail biting.
His tail was looking fine (except for the part in the above post) and even had some new regrowth. Woke up today and he looks like a crown tail :-( so disappointed, as these problems were the exact reason why I was cautious about getting a Betta.

I'll try to upload some pics later on.

Went to take some pics and my camera is flat :/

Will have to wait until tomorrow.

Any ideas on what has caused the tail biting and ways to stop it?

 good to know I'm getting lots of replies on this thread...... haha oh well, never mind.

I'm not going to bother with a picture now, since almost all of his tail has healed :yahoo:
No sign of fin rot either, which is great!
