Discus Not Eating - Help Needed [Pic Included]

Hi all,

I thought I'd return to this thread as the Discus is displaying some symptoms associated with body flukes in that it is shaking it's head and jolting forward as though it is trying to rid itself of some irritation. I have treated the tank in succession and to no avail with WaterLife Sterazin (for treating suspected body flukes), WaterLife Protozin (for treating Velvet disease and Ich) of which is more potent as it contains copper sulphate and then lastly I switched to Kusuri Wormer Plus for the treating of internal helminths and body/gill flukes.

The ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0 ppm, the nitrate reading is 25 ppm and the aquarium temperature is 29.5 degrees C so this can't be the cause of the fish needing to jolt its self forward and shake it's head quickly.

I just do not know what to do to help it get better. Are Discus a difficult fish to successfully treat for external body parasites?

These are the signs of skin flukes, gill flukes.

Pale gills.
Red inflamed gills,
Excess slime on gills, body, fins.
Swollen gills.
Heavy breathing, or gasping.
Flicking and rubbing.
Darting, or erratic swimming.
Red pin pricks marks on body, fins.
Spitting food out.
Coughing.
Other fish pecking at fish gills.

Is there a chance the medication you have been using is causing irritation.

Out of those symptoms it is just darting forward and sometimes swims erratically.

The other fish in there are acting very normal; I'd expect them to be showing some symptoms of irritation given that they are also in the treatment water but they are not doing so.

I am finding that after dosing Kusuri Wormer Plus the above symptom disappears but then gets more frequent as the days pass. As the fish isn't rubbing itself and it's gills are healthy I'm hoping that things will return to normal rather than go down hill.

Maybe it's time to call a veterinarian?

Yeah, better than leaving it in pain and misery or the threat of this coming to fruition.
