Dawn On The Reef

hi big C i love your rock wall, but ive noticed theres like some form of netting over it? did you put it there? to stop the bits of ceramic falling off? im just wondering as im researching ideas for a wall

 thats not netting it's a Dead Sea Fan ornament, which I thought would be a nice touch untill I get my Gorgonians to cover that space.

This is what I've decided on for my upgrade.

Snowcrete (white Portland Cement). x2
Aragamax sand x1
Granulated salt crystals x4

Stack some house bricks or plantpots into a shape
roughly form over these some chickenwire
then over that cover with some polythene sheeting
then you can pour/ form your mixture over this.
Dont worry about leaving holes as this adds to the effect when dry.
The salt dissolves and makes the rock porus.
When dry peel away the poly sheeting.
When dry soak for 5-6 weeks to stabalise the pH
Place some LR in the tank also to help seed the new.
This is going to cover the back, sidewalls and the weir box.

Not posted for a while but I am currently trialing this product to see what effects it has on the Nano.

bio-kit-nano-reef.jpg

See below for explanation of what this product is claims to achieve.
http://www.aquabuys.com/miva/merchant.mvc?...ode=pb_nano_kit
The aim is to trial this product at a reduced dosage to begin with, then if favourable increasing to mfg recomendations.
All the while still performing tests

Going to start the process this evening, by all the feedback I've had from fellow aquarists who are using or who have used this product, they say that results are not immediately visable but after a short while of 8-10 weeks you will notice a marked difference in the overall health of your aquarium.
how are you going to measure if the product is successful?
Hopefully it will be a visual thing as well as testing for Phosphates and Nitrates
Below is an exerpt form Mfgs literature.

Prodibio Bio Digest is a supplement to marine tanks, which biologically improves the water quality by digesting waste matter, establishes biological filtration systems and contains nine optimally proportioned strains selected nitrifying and nitrate/phosphate reducing heterotrophic bacteria, including Paracoccus denitrificans and Pseudomonas stuzerii. These bacteria perform complementary functions such as cleaning the soil and filters, purifying the water, reducing nitrates and phosphates and preventing algal growth. By competing for food they also prevent the proliferation of pathogenic organisms, hence reducing the risk of unexplained diseases

Will keep you all posted as always on the results.

I've moved a few corals around this evening and took some pics and a short video.

Are your clowns hosting in the Pussy coral ?
Yeah Sef, and I'm pleased as they used to host button polyps which was real stupid of them. I know it's not a Nem but the Pussey coral is not a bad substitute.

oh thats really interesting, on the hosting note do you think clowns would host the following?
leather?
xenia?
torch?
They will host in any darn thing that takes their fancy IMHO.
