I take it you wont be doing all those square feet in stone background again?

Spray foam :) Funny...i have been thinking about that one for a while.

Those portholes look good, when you first mentioned them i was worried they would be too small. But i think you will be fine with 20" Will there be a side viewable from elsewhere?

Front Viewing only for paying customers.
Only I'am alowed behind the scenes.

Have you looked into the background much?

Is it the special spray decor foam you need or do you know if the normal pollyfilla expanding foam is inert? Then dont you usually wait for it to dry coat it with some sort of sealant and then chuck sand all over it?

Haven't looked a great deal into it as such Ben only from an American perspective.
More interested in purchasing the Portholes, Getting the wall drilled and finding a company that will make me up a couple of brass hoops for lining the holes with, they are the first priorities
It will be a long process so the Nano will remain as my main tank for a while longer yet.
I will still have to build the tank and plumb it so theres all that to catalogue.

Wow, awesome upgrade plans, I love it.

Two concerns come to mind immediately. First, don't forget heat, becomes a problem with larger tanks and big lights common with SPS tanks. Second, cleaning the portholes might be difficult ;)

Wow loving it BigC ,
Been some time since i was last on here, your tank is looking amazing :good: , what you feeding your sun coral on, i have just got one on Sunday and so far it has failed to open , i have it in a shaded { cave } area where the light is not to bright but nothing yet, any way i see you are going to be starting a new project And i really like the idea of the Brass Portholes :hyper: I think it will look really good  i will be watching your new tank develop with interest. John,o

Hi John, long time no speak LOL
Ah the old Sun Coral debate
Well tbh john I never had any trouble keeping this alive even after being attacked by mushrooms and rics.
Initally they will take some time to adapt to your aquarium, I have found however in recent weeks mine opens quite regularly now the reason for this is the flow.
I have a new Tunze 6055 pump connected to a single controller which has a feeding button on it, this knocks off the pump for feeding. The pump remains off whilst the fish are feeding and returns automatically to normal status after 8 mins. When the pump comes back online and the flow returns, then the Sun Coral will open.
This is a fairly recent observation but it happens everytime.
So try the flow and non flow method.
I feed it Frozen Mysis, Brineshrimp, Krill pacifica and Cyclopeeze. With a large syringe with airline attached to the nozzle.
I dont find that you need to hide these corals in some dark corner, If you look at the pics, mine is in a quite open position. Hiding it also make's life difficult for feeding.
Hope that helped somewhat.
Yeah I hope I can do the new project justice, so many ideas milling around in my head but as always so little cash. LOL

Thanks again BigC :good:
some useful info there i don’t no why butt i always thought they had to be in a shaded area  . That’s the reason why i put it in the cave and as for the flow thing. i have just done a small experiment with a small power head that i use for my RO /salt mixing. I put it in the tank and pointed it into the cave and guess what within 10 mins of doing this the sun coral open up :good: . So i think i will leave if for tonight then move it first thing in the morning into a part of the tank with more flow so thanks again really appreciate your help :good: .

Well thank you John for confirming my assumption. So we now know a definitive way to coax Sun Coral to open. Excellent.
Why hide something as beatuiful as a Sun Coral away in a cave, get it out where all can see it's splendor.
