Dawn On The Reef

OK thanks for your above comments RadaR,
Today I purchased just a few more things like Rowaphos for phosphate removal
a set of cheap kitchen weighing scales a couple of nets and a bucket.
The next stage is the Liverock (£££) and maybe some Reef Bones, Anyone using the Reef Bones if so give me some details on how you found them....size of pieces etc. 40lbs retails for around £84.

I got 25kg of e.bay for about £30 a while back for another project. I currenly have about 1.5kg in my marine tank, used to scape the other rock on top of overtine I sould imagine it will get encrusted with alage etc.

Hi,
Just call me sad, mad, or plain eccentric but this is what I've neen up to lately.
Yes you guessed it, sticking little pieces of rock to some eggcrate. I am going to adorn the back and sides of my tank in this manner. The pics dont really do it justice and I will post some more later once I have finished the installation. I've tried it in the tank already and it looks effective. Yes I know of the downsides with detrius etc. and I plan to flush it every once in a while with the "Hurricane Effect" as mentioned in John Tullock's books. I will add around 20kgs of LR also and hope that it seeds everything. I am also looking at the big picture where by I can place soft corals up the sides and back walls and not just on the LR.

That actually looks quite effective :) better than the other guys attempt. I bet it will look stunning when it gets some algae on it :hyper:

Thats exactly right.. it does look effective, I dunno about it being better than the other guy's but the plan was to do one panel and see how it looks and to be honest it did look quite alright and as you say when it gets covered in algae, mushrooms and Zoo's it will really come into its own, Sure hope I can do it justice.
I'll get off now and start the other panels, should have some more pics about the installation by next Sunday all being well, maybe get some RO water in there and give the whole setup a real test before I add the salt.

Wow, more patience than I have. Just keep those phosphates down BigC. You don't want that thing getting over-run with nuisance algaes ;)

Point taken Fletch!

Ok, Didn't really get too much don this past week, I've only managed to finish one side of the tank with the rock wall, but it's comming along nicely and I hope to have it finished by next weekend (he says).

Looks good! Can you take it out? I would cycle your tank first and then put the wall in after so it doesnt get coverd in algae.....

Yeah Adam,
Its all totally removable. (4 sections)
Good point though.

Well worth the effort BigC. It looks great, even better when it's all set up :D

its looks awseom, how do oyu have the patience lol. Also i agree with adam about leaving it out until cycled / maybe a month although i suppose in the begining the worst algae you face is diatoms, its the worse ones down the line like hair algae and cyano that could gunk it up. It would look lovely though once corraline coverd.

More patience then me, thats for sure

But I'm sure it will be worth it when you can attach corals to it

Cheers,

Maximus
