Dawn On The Reef

And yes I did all this without the use of a MAN!!! well slight lie he did pick the glass up for me..lol
If I remember right your better half caused you to replace the tank base in the first place. So us males are good for dumping the blame on when things go pear shaped. :p
The next stage of my tanks development will be liverock, saltwater mixing and testing. I saw a new batch of Liverock at the LFS today and was sorely tempted to get the flexable friend out....but I resisted (quite proud of myself actually) Usually what happens is the devil and angel on each shoulder senario.... whispering "Go on buy it" (devil) and "She'll kill you" (angel) Usually 99% of the time the devil wins (does that tell you something about me)
Anyway it will eventually have to be purchased but I'm busy rigging up the RO kit that I've just bought (pics to follow) Bought a small 36 gallon per day kit as above..its arrived and I'm mighty pleased with the initial value for money bit.

The latest delivery as mentioned earlier is a small 36 gallon per day Reverse Osmosis unit. The picture shows the "Y" connector to share the washing machine cold connector and the tap connector for the 6mm RO hose. A very good buy from RO-MAN all for £64 delivered to Northern Ireland.

Yup he did, he broke too hard at a roundabout and both tanks went crashing into the back of the seats straight into metal struts, its a wonder both didnt get damaged :( And you guessed it, when it came time for the repair he made it quite clear he didnt want anything to do with it....gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr Oh well Its good learning for me :)

Thats a nice little RO unit, how much was it? Mine came with this freaky clamp that screws into your cold water pipe, hubby was not happy about this but installed it anyway claiming * I'm a plumber this will leak!* lol the only reason it did was because he didnt push the pipe in all the way. I just grinned and walked off..lol

As for spending on the plastic.. such restraint...lol good on ya! My biggest vice is online shopping, its just way too easy to press a button..lol  My fishes come tomorrow... Cant wait  :good:

Yeah that's in the bag...had a bad experience with a unit quite a few years ago using that method. I have no doubt it works but mine kept weeping. Hence the "Y" washing machine connection.
Post the pics of your fish as and when, always good to see the progression.

i used that freaky clamp screw, actually i used the easy to install, no hassle clamp screw. I dont see what the big fuss is..... Clamp it on a copper pipe, screw a screw, unscrew, and you have water....

Took me... i dunno 3 minutes to install... didnt even have to turn off my water supply. Just remember not to overtighten.

I guess I must have over tightened then...
By the look of the setup above, "Do you turn off the RO unit once you have the required amount of water" Just I thought that you had to keep the membrane wet and water flowing over it once you start the process.
Please dont think I'm having a go here, far from it, infact it would actually suit me to turn mine off and on as needbe....please advise
I will be using a 100ltr water butt as storage and once thats full (1 day) then I would prefer to turn the system off until needed again.

I turn mine almost off and just put my out tube in the waste down pipe, then turn it back to full when Iwant somemore.
I wasnt sure If it need to be constantly going it didnt say anything in the instructions, just turn off and on as required.
Would be good if someone could clarigy that :)

I have sent an E-Mail to RO-Man regarding the above grey area. Awaiting their reply.

Ok...for those who are interested here follows the reply I recieved back from RO-Man.

Hi

No you do not need to run the system 24 X 7 we advise that you can turn off the system for around a month at a time..

The best thing is to make sure the water is trapped in side as it VERY important for the membrane not to dry out

You can do this with 3 1/4 ball valves (one on each pipe) make sure when your running it the waste is running (do not leave any Valve closed) ore you will need to replace the membrane.

Well that cleared that up.

how are them fans working for you? im looking to do the same as you and i have a local...ish maplins so may do the same. Also how much did it cost you all in all?

The fans seem to be ok at present but I would suggest you buy the 80mm ones if you have the room (I simply didn't)
All in all it cost me around £16. Partly because the guy in the shop only had a 12v transformer with multiple connectors which made that particular component more expensive than need be. The fans were only cheap. Make sure you get the correct transformer ampage to drive the two fans. Ask the Geek in the shop.

This thread and your PMs have helped so much BigC. Really appreciate it. I was asking myself just how to keep the membrane in the RO unit wet and got the answer I needed (the valves) by looking on here.
