Dawn On The Reef

Bought another coral for the left hand side of the tank in order to balance things up a little.
Pics to follow.

As promised I've uploaded the latest FTS of the tank, I've moved a few things and managed to find something for the left wall area, namely a Pussey coral and an Organ-Pipe ( Gee. does that sound crude ) Anyway its filled that area really well and I'm a lot happer with it now. See what ya'll think.

As you know I've been looking to go with MH's for quite a while now as a lot of the zoas etc seem to be straining to get to the light. I have purchased a second hand single Sfiligoi 150w halide pendant, I've been told that they are a real good unit and the reflectors are second to none. So you may well see this errected in the comming months.
Thanks for looking as always.

Yes I agree it looks fantastic. The photo is pretty good as well, you must let us know the secret to getting the colours so vivid! Mine always end up so washed out and it never looks right if I try to re-saturate the colours in photoshop.

Hi,
I have aquired some Red Seaweed and placed it at the bottom right side of the aquarium. Looks pretty effective, if the hermits will leave it alone.
I will post some more pics soon.

Looks great :good: Still really love the way your background turned out, makes it look so much better and natural (if only I could be bothered to do it on mine :) ).

Hows the target feeding going?

Also what is the white coloured at the back on the left and the right? I'm sure you have named it here somewhere but with the forum as slow as it is I really cant bring myself to search through for it :)

Hows the target feeding going?
LOL, Thats going great guns now, I've managed to train he beast and it comes out every night at around 8pm when I do my feeding. I use a syringe with airline attached. Feeding Frozen Brineshrimp, Mysis and Plankton, its also partial to newly hatched BBS.
The corals at both sides at the back are Clove Polyps.
Thanks for looking

Your tank continues to impress BigC, nice work :)

Will you be integrating the halides into a new hood or the same one? Or perhaps no hood at all?

Hi Ski,
Cheers for the comments, Who'd have thought I would be at this stage looking at it form way long ago when I started. I've learnt a lot with your help and I'm a great deal porrer for the experience I can tell you.
Anyway to the lighting. I purchased the unit, its second hand (like new) Its currently travelling through the postal system, so I'm hoping I get it by tomorrow. It's a Sfiligoi 150w single unit pendant. Apparently they are ment to be the dogs naggers. I only paid £70 inc. postage and it will come with 2 new bulbs, timer and all the wiring/hanging kit etc. I dont know a lot about the subject so I couldn't comment just yet. To be honest I dont know what I'm gonna do with it as we speak, I havn't decided as to what permutation to go with, All I know it has to be asthetically pleasing or she'll go mad with me. (pretty regular occurance in our house anyway  ) I would like to incorporate some kind of supplementary T5 arrangement to accompany the halide (blue and whites) So I dunno just yet. I guess time will tell on that one. I'll keep you posted

Tank looks great, BigC. :good:

D'you want to come round and do mine for me?

Ah yes, keeping the other half pleased, always fun :). It's a good thing mine approves of my woodworking abilities. She pretty much lets me do whatever I want as long as I finish it before it goes on the tank, or as long as I do some building/fixing around the house as well.

Lookin forward to seeing this light on your tank

Well just a little up date on the lighting aspect first. It seems like I wont be using the MH over my main tank after all, "WHY" I hear you ask, well, whilst I was in the process of obtaining the MH unit, I also purchased 3 replacement tubes for my existing light setup. (Interpet Power Compacts) I bought 2x55w Daylights and 1x35w Daylight/Blue. Upon replacing these I noticed I'd been using Triplus tubes (Triphosphor). OH Damm I'd ordered the wrong tubes I thought. Anyway I installed the new Daylights and WOW the increase in illumination was staggering. I know replacing the tubes anyway was gonna make a difference but even when new the Triphosphor tubes were never that bright, so it appears that I'd made a boob right from the outset.
What I am gonna do Is construct a small seperate frag tank in the garage and use the MH pendant for that. (I will include a build guide and pics on this thread at a later date)
So for now here are some more pics of the tank for your perusal.

I might fit an additional light in the shape of an Aquaray - Reef Blue, for that Shimmer effect

LOL, A big NO, why because you have at your disposal all the information necessary to make yours better.

Really like the red seaweed,do not think i have seen any of that for sale before, is it easy to keep? I wouldn't mind some of that myself, it looks very nice.
