Dawn On The Reef

Yeah would be good to see the BTA pics Connor
Let me know if it stays where you originally placed it. What lighting and what flowrate.

And hows the feeding going with the Sun Coral?
pretty good up til pres. I lift the canopy with the lights in and the tank dims then I wait about 20mins untill all the head are out then I spot feed.

Tomorrow I'm performing a major overhaul of the sump. renewing pipework returns etc, giving the sump a good old mucking out and doing away with the bio-ball idea.
More pics to follow.

How did the sumo work go?
I presume you mean SUMP and not Sumo.
Well I have actually just finished and now that you ask it went rather well, my son was around to help which made the whole job much easier.
All in all I give the sump a good cleaning, mainly due to doing some more research regarding the Bio- Balls I was using, most folks were in agreement that they were a breeding ground for Nitrates and I was concerned about this so that coupled with the gunged up Eheim flexipipe returns was the reason I undertook the task. I changed around 30ltrs of water (which is big for my tank) All the tank inhabitants seem better for the major influx of new water. I also cleaned the skimmer inside and out, now I've got the microbubble equation to deal with again. In the old water and debris on the base of the sump I found all manner of critters mainly small starfish looking creatures, I persume they are juve Brittle Starfish would I be right. Anyway I saved as many as I could and returned them to the sump once I'd finished. As I said I removed the Bio-Balls and replaced them with 2 course filter sponges (juwel range) and a Carbon sponge again from the Juwel range. In Between the two course sponges I have a bag of Rowaphos. The top layer is my usual white filter pad gleend from the air filters they use at work. I change this every fortnight as normal. I made a new spraybar for the return this time with less holes in the pipe which gives me much better water movement with more pressure in the pipe.
Everything seems to be going fine and only time will tell if I made the right decision or not.

I've been wanting to go with MH lighting for quite some time now, It would open up a whole load more options for me so I may well be getting my tool kit out for another DIY job, With pics of course. Watch this space.

i would deffinatley be interested to have a read of that. Im starting to think MH and use my LEDs as a suppliment to them now im looking at corals. Probably a good few months away yet but i have a cheeky search on ebay from time to time. Would be nice to see how you tie it in with the tank and the cabinet

Sticks n stones mutant. Why do you feel the need to............
Anyway just sussed a Glass Anemone (pest) must have come in on new coral additions. Bought some Apistasia X from the LFS and on first impressions I really like the product. Zapped the one I could see. I'm busy being vigilant for other offenders.
