Dawn On The Reef

one bad ass looking tank.

I have to admit i wasn't keen on the built up background at the start of the thread but you could obviously see something that i couldn't.

Top marks fella.

I too must confess that early on in the life of this tank I was nearly ready to bin the rockwall idea, but having seen how it looks today I'm pretty glad I kept it.
Thanks

completely agree, something different and done very well

and sign of any build up of gunk behind the wall?

LOvely tank! Real jealous of your DIY rock background! Looks real good witht the coraline algae growing on it now :good:

Still looks phenomenal BigC :good:

Sooo jealous about the Duncan. Over here the stinkin things are like $30/polyp. Had to feed mine a lot to get it to grow :)

No not so you'd notice as there is enough room for me to squeeze the syphon hose behind the back and sides and also the two back compartments. This is how I do My water changes I blow and syphon from these areas and not from inside the tank as such. I then replenish new water into the aquarium proper. Seems to be working fine thus far.

Yeah I think I got a real steal there with those. I fed mine for the first time this evening with frozen brineshrimp they took it and closed up but the tentacles were open again in a matter of minutes, must be greedy little buggers.

What size is it again?
The tank dimensions are standard UK aquarium size (L x W x D)
24"x12"x18" (85ltr approx)

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and for taking the time to view. I very much appreciate the feedback and the help I have recieved along the way, I hope certain parts of this journal has gone someway to helping others who are embarking on the same path. If it has then it's not only been an adventure for me but also it has served a purpose.
I will keep on with the journal as I have been doing cataloguing its progress using both text and pictures.
Thanks for looking

Big C where did you get the Zoa polyps from? I want to get some brightly coloured Zoa. The LFS seem to only stock dull brown and orange colours.

Regards

Looks stunning, that Maze Coral looks stunning. Lovely Yellow Polyps aswell, i always think they are a fantastic but under ratered coral.

Thanks Guys....

so if you see any........

Yeah, the tank looked much the same colouration so I needed a different coral to that give a different effect, There was no yellow in the tank so I was originally trying to get hold of a Sun Coral, to no avail, then some of these Sand Polyps came up on Fleabay, needless to say I won, I got them for £12 which was a good buy considering the effect they have on the overall picture within the tank. Looks like they are a fast spreading species though.

It's my favourite. Wasn't sure about buying it at first (could I keep one of those I thought) Its a funny thing I positioned it sorta where I wanted it and it seems to have moved slightly or adjusted itself. Saw its sweeper tentacles out yesterday evening.

Thanks for looking Guys

Sweet, sweepers is a really good sign of health in these corals :D

Yeah there are lots of them now, they really do extend as far out as the original size of the frag (75mm) Notice it tends to dull slightly in its flourescent quantity when the sweepers are out.
Lost another True Turbo sp snail this morning. My snail population seem to thrive then become more inhert over a period of 6 months. Is this common to have to replace the snail population from time to time. I prefer Turbos to Astreas as the Astreas are a PITA because they keep falling over.
