Dave`s Pre Journal Journal

Oh right, sorry I get it now, think it would look def look better in the 60lt and I personally prefer this kind of scape to the Iwagumi, more character to it, not that Iwagumi cant look excellent as well.

Cheers the lighting advice, will look into them.

Sam

EDIT - sorry, where did you get them?

EDIT - Never mind can see you can get them from aquatics online, quite cheap so might well invest. Let us know how they do :)

EDIT - Sorry I'll stop hi-jacking your thread, but the tubes are cheaper from Ultimate Discount Aquatics

Cheers Dude, that`s where I got them from. I`m looking forward to firing up those bad boys! 8) I think I was put on to them on the thread you started about the quality of the EQJ tubes, and I wanted to try something different to my Interpet T5s, which are excellent tubes.

I am a big fan of Iwagumi, so I`ll probably do one some time with a wider tank. The 2006 ADA catalogue p. 40 is a stunning tank IMO.

Dave.

Think this is an excellent idea, however the rocks are to dominating for the size of tank. For that rock formation to work the tank needs to be bigger. IF you could reduce it a bit but still keep the idea it would give more of an illusion of a large tank. That rock work at present only makes it look cramped and ruins the scale illusion. Dont think you'd need to lose very much though. Not sure about the twig either.

Just my 0.02p worth :)

Sam

PS - which lighting did you get? I'm beginning to think the budget tubes I got aren't up to the task, doh :X that's 15quid down the bottomless 'planted tank' hole!

I diss agree Sam.
And you get what you pay for, sorry mate!!

Dave I think the rock placement in the aquaONE tank is great, minus the twig!!!
The size and dominance of the stones work very well. I would be very kean to keep it as it is, and set up that tank. It has the potential of looking very "Nature Aquarium" indeed!!!
HC, moss, hair grass and and some stem plants would be ideal for this design.
My vote says, set this up and the 60cm too.

Top stuff Dave :good:

Fair enough :) each to their own ;)

Sam

PS - yeh I know but my wallet is sealed tighter than a nuns knickers, aint no way I could have got more the 15quid out of it for the new lights.

Thanks as always Moody,

I bought the Aqua One the other day just to try out a few ideas in, but I must admit that I like the look of the scape, and was thinking that I may not get quite the same look in the 60l. If I do set it up as is, it means I will have to buy a whole new set of gubbings. It may have to be a back burner job.

Having said that, I could tee off from the CO2 on the 60l. Now you`ve got me thinking again. :shout:

I really do want to have a go at an Iwagumi, and a large tank is miles off yet. I might decide over a bottle of Vino tonight.

Dave.

Dave,

Did Aquamas sort you out re the broken handle and reactor hose fittings ?
Mine hasn't arrived yet, though it could have something to do with the signalmens' strike.

I like the rocks but not the twigs, but what do I know

Peter

The original kit took two days to arrive. They have mailed me to say the 12mm fittings are on their way.

I didn`t bother mentioning the handle, I just took it off. I have two JBL bottles with handles.

I'm looking forward to seeing it all set up and going.
Also thinking on your Argos cabinet for my Juwel Rekord60

Dave i love the new idea you've got, and i much prefer it to the Iwagumi, partly because i'm not a fan of them but also this is alot more interesting and original. I think that the rocks would look great with hc tumbling down from between the gaps or this plant http://cgi.ebay.com/Plagionium-Live-aquari...tem250090697171. looks really cool and something i've never seen before you could also some moss in the cracks.

I also would leave the twigs out you could use either hc or hairgrass on the bottom to give the effect of fields at the base of the mountain.

WOW!

Thanks for the link Afro, that plant is stunning. I have never seen it before and I can`t believe it`s not popular in the UK.

Have you ordered from here before because I have got to get some?

Cheers, Dave

EDIT: I have just realised that it is Aquaticmagic. I often look at the hardware, but never the plants because I assumed it would be too far for them to ytravel and be OK. This plant will be well worth the risk.

Not to poo poo the artistic style tanks and 'triads' etc, but I think it looks much better now with the mountain than the previous look. Maybe a bit too much stone for that tank, but maybe its just me, I think it looks more natural now.

On Aquatic Magic, I bought a Glass Ceramic Rhinox 2000 Diffusor, Glass egg shaped drop checker and a Glass Gamba bubble counter and non return valve valve.

Great price and great quality, although delivery did take about 10 days. (was chinese holiday I think at the time)

I always look there for new bits and bobs.

Good luck with the planting and so on

Andy

Dave, I've ordered a few time from aquamagic a few times, plant wise i've only ever brought mosses from them. They have always arrived in top condition delivery takes betwwen 7-12 days. I think a moss is much more likely to survive that many days travel than a liverwort but then it not gonna cost you loads of money if it doesn't survive. I'll definatly be ordering some for my next scape.

I thought I would show this picture, as the Aqua One tank I got for just messing around with has confused things a bit, with people thinking it was the original 60l tank in this journal:

tank2and3002pb.jpg

It wasn`t my intention to plant it up, but some positive feedback and my own weakness meant that it is now a third project. The other deciding factor is that I am going to tee off from the CO2 supply to the 60l, which will save me some money. I don`t think I will be doing a journal for this one though.

Points to note on the 60l on the left of the picture are:

I have put a chrome pole centrally inside the cabinet to brace it a little more. The cabinet is perfect for this tank in terms of size, but I felt it needed some extra strength.

The Eheim filter has now got its double taps fitted on the inlet and outlet hose. These will allow me to detach the filter from the hoses without having the messy business of draining anything. Everything can remain primed up.

The Hydor inline heater has been fitted to the inlet hose of the filter, as opposed to the recommended outlet hose. I put it here because I would have struggled to fit it to the outlet along with the CO2 reactor.

I am getting a bit frustrated at the moment because I am still waiting on the luminaire and CO2 reactor 12mm fittings. My plant list is sorted out and AE currently have them all in stock, but I have no doubt some will be sold out by the time this tank is ready to go.

Afro, I will definitely be ordering some Plagiomnum when I get a few bits and bobs for the Aqua One.
