Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

I have OCD after watching my family and friends die from drug resistant bacteria between 2005-2011. It messed me up pretty badly and now this virus is pushing me a bit further into nutsville.
I’m sorry to hear that. :(

Sadly it makes better headlines than reality. $1000 does not go very far when you have to pay a mortgage and feed a family
I mean no disrespect and certainly feel for you. I’m going to speak as a mother and grandmother right now though. These are the hardest times I have witnessed in my 63 years. No one could have imagined this 6 months ago. This is exactly why everyone should have a savings account that can sustain them for at least 2 months. I know it’s hard but you have to sacrifice in order to keep a nest egg. My husband and I Struggled to keep a nest egg with 4 children. We always had a savings account though. He was a blue collar worker at the time. Americans have gotten fat on credit cards and the “I want it now” mentality. I hope this is a lesson for all in how important a savings is and the Millennials will learn from it. I hate that this is happening. It sickens me. Our retirement is hurting. Finances aren’t like groceries though. You can’t go and stock pile at the last minute. You have to plan ahead, budget, and pay your savings account just like your other monthly bills. Even if it’s $50 a month. It will slowly build into a nest egg. I pray for each of us to make it through this. We are strong and with God’s help, we will make it!

Try not to freak out. We all are concerned but worry won’t help you one bit. Try to do some relaxation exercises. The U.S. is testing a vaccine now. It’s been pushed through quicker than ever imagined. It sounds promising. You can only catch the virus through your eyes, nose, and mouth. Therefore, keep your hands away from your face. Stay in as much as possible and take care of yourself. Stress will only get you sick so calm down, please. We will all get through this.

Not disagreeing with any of that. I'm not American so don't get it. It was just an observation that that money does not go very far. $850bn makes a great headline but it is only a drop in the ocean...

Yes, that’s why we have to depend on ourselves.

I'm fortunate that since I moved back home I was able to put most of the money from selling my car into a savings account and for the first time I'm grateful I have had to deal with the DWP to get carers allowance because at least that will be a little bit of money in and some is better than nothing. I may potentially lose my job at the end of this if we go on an extended lock down. Both my parents fall into the at risk group and when I asked my dad how he is, he replied he's self isolating in the pub so I won't be very surprised if he catches it at some point. That said, viral meningitis made a good go at killing him a few years ago and failed which is why he is being arrogant about the chance of corona virus finishing the job.

Lego is temporarily shutting down its stores and the CEO put out a letter, which you can read at the following link.

It's nice to see some companies taking care of their employees.

And yes I have Lego. I am regressing back to my childhood.

One of my daughters is a financial aid advisor for a medium sized college (5,000+students). They gave everybody 3 weeks off except for office staff. She is swamped with e-mails from students wondering what to do financially.

Well I'm surprised your still posting on this forum rather than working on your food needs...

Don't they have student loans then? I went through university on a loan, the interest rate was inflation. Paid for my first car on the interest free overdraft!

I think it is more fear of the unknown with classes being suspended, many government loans and grants require the student to maintain a full time status so they are worried about what will happen now. Most of the private scholarships also require that too.
