Well I am not a happy bunny! Dad had a bad cough which wasnt getting any better with antibiotics which he started on Saturday afternoon, anyway, he did a video call to some nurse who advise he might have caugh the coronavirus after getting an initial cold/flue from me. They have said having given a prescription for even stronger antibiotics that if he does get better indicating its not the virus, then this is fine, however, for the time being, we should intend on staying isolated for 14 days!

Your dad could have pneumonia caused by bacteria, a virus or fungal infection. Bacterial and viral are the most common forms of pneumonia. And with the corona virus, he could have viral pneumonia, which is not going to respond to anti-biotics at all.

Anti-biotics only treat bacterial infections and do nothing to viruses or fungus.

Having said that, your dad could have the virus and have bacterial pneumonia and he really needs to be checked by a doctor, not a nurse on the video link.

Is there any way he can get checked by an actual doctor?

If you dad has been on anti-biotics a number of times before for pneumonia, or spent a lot of time in hospitals, he might have a drug resistant form of bacterial pneumonia. The doctors really need to take a sample from his lung (sputum sample) and find out what is causing the problem and fix it.

If they give him anti-biotics and it's viral pneumonia, it won't fix the problem.
If he has a drug resistant form of bacterial pneumonia, he will need special anti-biotics.

Restaurants and bars herein MA are not allowed to serve people in the restaurant except for take-out. Schools are all closedl for 5 weeks...my bet is they might end up extending closure till the end of the school year in June. The US Goverment may give most citizens $1000 check within about 2 weeks. The government is considering a trillion dollar package to deal with the drop in the economy as businesses large and small suffer from lack of customers.

The Australian government is giving poor people a small monetary bonus (about $700 I think). But it's pointless when there is no food to spend it on.

I can't buy soap or toilet paper and washing without soap is pointless. So why hand out money?
Maybe I should buy a bag of sand and use that to wash with. Clog up the sink and use the money to pay a plumber to clean the drain and bring the virus to my house

Yes, but the stimulus will help in the long run and needed at this time. People are unable to work. Do you want them to be able to feed their families? The Government will be burrowing from its own money (probably my money in SS). It’s not borrowing from another country. I find this necessary right now.

Ok, that makes logical sense. I just didn’t know if they were borrowing money from another country, or from somewhere else.

Sadly it makes better headlines than reality. $1000 does not go very far when you have to pay a mortgage and feed a family

I agree. That would feed a family of 6 for only 5 weeks. And that’s accounting for food.

well, if there's no food on the shelves, you won't spend money on it so the $1000 will go further

Well I read an interesting article about people who are still going about their life as usual and how they feel the idea of being isolated or not having public interaction is more of a personal choice...

I'm curious though does this mean I cant get my hair cut or a back massage for the next three months? IfI do get my hair cut will it be frowned upon?

You could cut your own hair. A simple buzz cut. I do it all the time.

Ditto. I did mine a month ago because it's easier to disinfect when I get back from the shops. 1 alcohol wipe does face and head. No virus left alive on my noggin.

It’s not that excessive. Just get a razor or buzzer and do the old 6 stroke. Cut that hair down and then alcohol wipe your head! Very simple.
