Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Um , I think we should be talking about the speech that Trump just gave on national tv....no travel from Europe to US (except maybe from UK) for 30 days except they are allowing some Americans who have been screened to come back home. From what they say on CNN, that includes cargo!. The stock market is now in a bear market...a 20% drop from recent highs. Crazy times right now around the world...Stay safe everyone and stay informed.

I may have to come out of retirement if the stock market continues to drop. I had a pretty good nest egg but it won’t last long like this.

Not to alarm anyone but more bad news...after the President's speech the Dow Jones futures dropped 750 more points after a drop of 1464 points on Wednesday which forebodes a further decline when markets opens tomorrow. Crazy times we live in. Stay safe.

NBA basketball announced it is suspending all games till further notice. This and other suspensions of large gatherings will further hurt the economy in my opinion. Late night talk shows in US will soon stop allowing audiences. Also the shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune will soon suspend audiences in their taping of shows. Better to be safe than to risk needlessly spreading the virus.

What is going on in my state ? Look at the maps they show on TV of the affected states. Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and North and South Dakota remain virus free so far. Why? ...
The greater Boston area has more people than the sum total population of those five states.
This is probably caused by population density with the places of low infection having more isolated communities. And they are also further from the point of origin where the virus first came into the US.

I heard its very hot in Australia right now. Is the spread rate of cv going down at all with the hot weather? From the site I linked to in my previous post it shows infections per million in Australia a little lower than it is in the states. I know the flu generally dies down in the warm weather here in the US. Hopefully that will apply to cv as well. Time will tell.

Have you heard about Tom Hanks and his wife?

It is early autumn here in Australia (March being the start of autumn) and the weather is fine and dry. The virus is definitely here and from what I saw on the news yesterday, there are lots of people with a cold or flu virus in Western Australia. There were several thousand lined up at the hospitals in Perth waiting to be screened for the corona virus.

If all those people have the virus, it is going to spread extremely rapidly in the next few weeks.

Cold and flu viruses are uncommon here at this time of year so it is possible most of the people at the hospital screening session have it.

I also saw 2 people at my local shopping centre with a runny nose and they were sneezing so it might be here in town :(

If many of the ones with symptoms test positive in Australia. then that may show that warm weather may not result in the spread of cv to lessen. Not a good sign.

Well for a newbie like me thinking about investing is now a good time or give it a few months?

Well someone at work informed me that the member of Parliament who was diagnosed with it was met the prime minister and he went on to meet the royal family later that day...
