Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

I tried to buy toilet paper today but couldn't. This is the 6th day in a row I have been unable to get any. I am not trying to stock up I just need some to use, down to my last roll. Too much information, sorry.

Anyway, the chick at woollies supermarket had just given a guy a 16 pack of toilet paper so I went and asked her if I could buy a 4 pack. She said no, all the paper is being held until the morning when the store opens. I said what about the Asian guy you just gave some to? She ignored me and walked off.

So it appears that the staff are giving toilet paper to some customers but refusing to sell it to other customers. And the people that do their shopping at 8am get to buy toilet paper but people that shop after lunch miss out.

Toilet paper, tissues and paper towels are actually made in Australia so there is no reason for people to be stock piling it here. The ironic part is people aren't stock piling food. So they are buying heaps of dunny paper but normal amounts of food. What the hell are they doing with 200 rolls of toilet paper. If you don't have much food you don't need much toilet paper.
This is true. ^ ;)

And this why I was against this post in the first place . Geeze! Not only the politics but the info on the virus is crazy! We have a group of about 10 that traveled to Egypt and tested positive in Houston area. Do you realize that more people have died of the flu than of Corona? Yet half the people don’t take the flu shot. This one just causes panic because no vaccine yet. One man had the virus and was sick for only 8 hours with a high fever. That was it. He said the flu is much worse to have. He asked the docs if this was a normal reaction and they said yes, for most people. Unless you are elderly or immune compromised, there is a low risk of serious complications.
That's the real 411 as far as I am concerned. Madame' is trained in this stuff. I'm listening to her. But perhaps you can further enlighten us Madame' TFF @Deanasue . Is there anything to the Fox News report that this came about because the Chinese eat raw bats and snakes ?

As a matter of fact, I did hear that. They believe the virus started in the “Wet Market” where they sell that type of stuff. As far as knowing if there’s anything to that, I have no idea. I also didn’t realize they ate them raw.

Probably just more of the hysteria and misinformation that is going wild.

Yes, I remember reading about that in the Academy history classes. It blew over.

"The department's website said: "As of 9am on 8 March 2020, 23,513 people have been tested in the UK, of which 23,240 were confirmed negative and 273 were confirmed as positive. Two patients who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.""

The stats look extraordinary, are all those who got tested just hypochondriacs??

Possibly a lot of the negatives were people who had been in contact with a known case so had to be tested. Others will have had similar symptoms caused by a different infection but had to be tested to make sure.

The first person to die had been in and out of hospital for other conditions before catching it. The more other conditions a person has (eg lung disease, diabetes etc) the more likely they are to die of it. A friend of ours in her early 30s died from flu in the 1980s because she had cancer and the chemo and radio therapy had seriously damaged her immune system.

The UK hasn't tested people unless they'd travelled from high risk areas within certain dates, or had been in close contact with someone suffering COVID -19. So no, they're not hypochondriacs. One exception is GPs testing 1% of the population who have presented with colds or flu - this is to establish any prevalence in the general population.
The strategies will change from tomorrow as we move from 'contact tracing ' to 'slowing ' the disease.
I do wonder if they can test for antibodies yet (showing someone had it and recovered), or just show those who have got it at that moment in time.

The average Chinese person does not eat raw bats or any animals raw. That's just the media making it sound more dramatic to get more viewers. There might be a few weirdos out there that do but most people won't eat raw meat unless they absolutely have to.

The virus originated from animals and there was a jump in species from animal to human. Whether the original infected animal was from the market or was in the wild when the virus jumped species is unknown. However, that's all irrelevant because the species barrier has been crossed and it is affecting humans now.

Bats do carry viruses that can jump to different species including people. You can catch the viruses from direct contact with them or from inhaling dust from them or their poop. This is why you should always wear a tight fitting dust mask when entering caves with bats in.
