Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Nobody that posted on this topic is going to be removed from our forums . But let's just avoid discussions of politics or religion on this topic.

I also wash my hands many times a day . I wash my hands sometimes before and always after my hands have touched tank water. I also now wash my hands after I have handled currency especially before eating.

I think that it will blow up very quickly. The WHO said that practically the only way to contain it would be to do what china is doing, which is some pretty crazy stuff. The fact that the incubation period is pretty long and you can spread it during that whole time is not helpful to the situation at all, as well as people not following the quarantine. 46 students at my friends college were asked to quarantine and only a few did. All of the public schools in my district were shut for the last couple days too

@PheonixKingZ this is not funny at all. The United States is corrupt in its morality. The pornography industry generates more income yearly than is spent for the US defense budget. Infant genocide is a business generating billions of dollars yearly. Sexual immorality is not just condoned but legal. Adultery and out of wedlock marriages are considered a matter of individual choice. No concern at all is raised for the children these things affect. Sexual practices which have been proven to cause disease are celebrated by Hollywood. No fault divorce is just about the law of the land now. Don't like that woman anymore ? Get rid of her and get a new one. Marijuana, which once would put you in jail, is now legal even for just plain old enjoyment. The government loves tax money no matter where it comes from. Cigarettes are still legal despite the evidence against them. DDT has been outlawed but not cigarettes. Why ? The tax money is as addictive to crooked politicians as the cigarette itself is to the smoker. The ancient Romans provided bread and circuses to distract the rabble. So is the good old USA. I love my country , it's the government I hate.
And this why I was against this post in the first place . Geeze! Not only the politics but the info on the virus is crazy! We have a group of about 10 that traveled to Egypt and tested positive in Houston area. Do you realize that more people have died of the flu than of Corona? Yet half the people don’t take the flu shot. This one just causes panic because no vaccine yet. One man had the virus and was sick for only 8 hours with a high fever. That was it. He said the flu is much worse to have. He asked the docs if this was a normal reaction and they said yes, for most people. Unless you are elderly or immune compromised, there is a low risk of serious complications.

Doctor Oz was on the American news this morning with some new information.

Apparently young people will be fine and there have been no recorded deaths of children, teenagers or young adults. The people most at risk are those 50 years old and over.
If you are a healthy 50 year old, there is a 1% chance you will die from this.
If you are a healthy 60 year old, there is a 5% chance you will die from this.
If you are a healthy 70 year old, there is a 10% chance you will die from this.
Every 10 years above this increases your likelihood of dying by 5-10%. It's basically killing off the elderly.

In addition to age, people with heart disease are at a high risk of dying.
People with lung health issues are at a high risk of dying.
People with diabetes are at a high risk of dying.
People with cancer are at a high risk of dying.

The elderly and people with major health issues are all at risk. If you are old and or have any of the 4 major risk factors, they recommend you avoid socialising or going to places with lots of people.
They suggest standing at least 6 feet away from people to prevent droplets coming into contact with you from other people talking.
Avoid the grandchildren until this is over.

I’d avoid the seniors before the children. Just be sure everyone washes their hands and changes clothing when coming in from work or school. Then wash the clothing in hot water and detergent. Dry them in dryer immediately following. Lysol everything afterwards. Your cell phone is a high risk factor if you lay it down in grocery stores, etc. They were instructing on how to clean it today in news. I wish they were clearer on how long the bacteria can survive after leaving the infected body.

This virus spread rate is still unfolding. From what I read, there presently are not enough test kits yet available but as days pass there should be. The flu cases in the US started slow but as weeks progressed it spread rapidly. Let’s hope this doesn’t spread as widely as the flu but time will tell. Once more people are tested we will have a better handle on the rate of spread. If the US starts handling this like China did to limit the spread, the spread of the virus will be better contained but our economy will suffer much more than it already has been affected. Time will tell.

On a positive note, it’s a great time to refinance your home mortgage or take out a home equity loan.

It's a virus not bacterium.

Most cold & flu viruses can survive outside the body for about 48 hours. Hot dry conditions will reduce that time. Whereas cool damp conditions can increase it a bit.

You have to wonder if people will stop going to movies, restaurants, and sporting events. People are already cancelling or changing traveling by plane. The airlines are starting to be greatly affected financially. Cruise ship companies are being greatly affected. Will public transportation ridership dwindle? I heard that the local public trains and buses are being wiped down with disinfectant every 4 hours. There is talk of cancelling or postponing the Olympics in Japan if things don’t improve. This is starting to remind me of the tv series- The Twilight Zone. I can hear the opening theme song in my head.

Let’s just pray that the virus spread can be contained soon.

You are correct. Wrong choice of words from a sleepy brain. A virus has to have a host though so unless it is inhaled or swallowed. It can’t last on surfaces too long.

Taxi drivers (including Uber) have seen a noticeable reduction in passengers. People are cancelling air travel. There are fewer people on trains and buses now.

Wiping down (disinfecting) public transport every 4 hours is pointless. There's 4 hours of potential contamination occurring between each clean. They can clean it and straight after it has been cleaned, someone sneezes in a train and it's contaminated again.

The only real way to stop the spread of this virus or any disease outbreak, is to isolate all sick individuals and shut down the borders for several months or until the problem is stopped. However, that won't happen because everyone is worried about the economy collapsing. So money will allow this virus and others to keep spreading around the world.

This is going to happen again in the future and eventually it will be a real nasty virus that has a really high kill rate. It happens every time a population grows too big and becomes overcrowded. It happens in fish tanks when we overstock the tanks and don't do enough water changes. It happens on farms when animals are crowded together and not given a clean place to live. And it happens to people, who make it worse by travelling and spreading the disease when they shouldn't.

This is the third new virus that has come out of rural China in the last 20 years. Prior to that the last new virus that spread was 100 years ago and that was contained to a degree because people only travelled by ship and it took weeks or months to get to their destination. Now people are flying around the world and they can spread new diseases across the globe in a couple of days before anyone even knows the disease exists.

The Coronavirus is spreading rapidly worldwide.
  • What is the present state of the virus in your country or state?
  • Do you know anyone who is infected?
  • What restrictions does your government have to prevent the spread of the virus?
  • Are you making any preparations such as stocking up on food and buying masks?
  • What is your opinion about the coronavirus..is it overblown; or do you feel there will be a pandemic?
Please stick to the facts and stay on topic. Please be able to back up your post with a link to a reputable source if necessary.
17 people is infected and 16 recovered
Students below grade 9 stay at home
No
I think it will overblown

11 town officials are now under a 14 day quarantine in the town next to mine due to contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. It’s getting very close to home here.

Some Biogen Employees requested to go into quarantine after a meeting in Boston and all other employees told to work from home.
