C.trilineatus: Breeding Like Rabbits...

Thanks, I think a few of the runts are starting to show, I've had one die, and another I would imagine would be dead when I get home, as it seems to have a curved spine and can only swim in tight circles.

The culture is coming along great now as well, so I am adding more than enough worms, so they dont miss their feed during the day while I'm in work.

You know those pics you sent me of your cultures, is it ok for me to use them in documentation? as I've started to put together a guide to your common cories, care, identification, breeding, the fry etc.

I just need to contact planetcatfish.com to ask if I can use their images as well, anyone else who reads this thread and has some quality images that they are willing for me to use will be gratefully recieved you will all get acknowledgements for your help,

thanks,

Hi §tudz

Yeah, no problems. I have another pic of the culture at two days, when it was just creeping up the sides. Do you want that one too??

Oh, and thanks for before with that link. I will definitely be getting the hubby to have a look and order me some filters. I just cleaned my fry tank and found a dead fry stuck under one of our current filters. The thing also makes a noise, so is disturbing while you're trying to sleep at night. Are your new filters as silent as they advertise??

Speak soon and let me know if you need any more pics on the worms.

:D

ok, thanks yeah I'll take any photos you have of any of your cories, eggs, and fry, as you seem to get better photos than I do :D

the filters run on an air pump, they are like having a light airstone in the tank, you get the noise of the pump, and the bubbles, but its not really too noisey, I cant sleep unless it quiet, and I can sleep with it on.
they are worth the £4.

thanks, erm just looked in my Trilineatus tank, and there are more eggs, but I dont have enough heaters :(

will 1day old fry get eaten by 10day old fry?

Edit: The was 66 eggs this time

Edit 2:They are going again!!

:hyper: WOW, congrats again §tudz

I have found that fry only eat each other if one has died. The only thing with putting newborn fry with older fry is that they older one's are more boisterous and might kill the smaller one's with their darting around. But at 10 days old, they won't be that much bigger than newborns. What are you feeding the parents to be getting so many eggs and spawns???

Brilliant, keep it up. How are the first batch doing anyway?? Any more pics :hey: .

:D

I feed the adults on tetra tabimin and every three days blood worm, I dont feed them one day during the week, this is on different days, to ensure they aren't being over fed.
I have done a water change since I placed them in the tank, and I just clean the filter out every time it becomes clogged. I have been keeping the water temp at around 23-24*C but I've turned the temp up, in an attempt to stop them spawning for a while, until I have reared these two batches.

Here are some pics of the batch from 21-Oct:

as you can see the 21-Oct batch is now quiet large.

Studz

If you wish to rehouse some of the broods once they reach a couple of months old, I will gladly take some off your hands (in exchange obviously for some beer tokens if required). My Mrs just read this thread & she is green with envy as in the past she couldn't get C. Trilineatus to breed at all (all the others she got breeding no problems!).

Ok thanks, I'll have to see how many survive, as I have promised some to a friend on here, and I want to keep a handful myself the others will be sold, either to private buyers, or to a fish shop I go to regularly.
I'm not sure how you would get the fish? as I am not familiar with posting fish, so collection would probably be the only way :)

:-( I found 20 dead fry today and I think there maybe some more dead, but then I suppose on the percantages not all the fry will survive, and a lot do die for no apparent reason, :-(

*loads a giant cory stealing tank into his private jet, neither of which he really owns*

Mission impossible IV: Stealing Studz copious ammount of corries.

how big are they? My cory babies are so small haha.. and yours look so big.

I would guess they are about 5-10mm now, and growing everyday.
As Carmen said earlier in this topic they are huge, they had hatched after 2 days and by the end of the 3rd day most of the yolk sacks had gone.
They are a lot bigger than other broods I've had, and I've never got a brood to survive more than two weeks, and its day 9. Found another dead one this morning, so looks like the runts are beginning to fall now.

:-( Sorry to hear about the dead fry, but with so many to start with, your losses seem large.

Sounds like they're doing well, growing quickly which is good. Soon you'll have some tiny newborns and your other batch will look like monsters against them.

:D

:) yeah, I'm expecting to find the new fry hatched when I get home tonight, I'm going to keep them in their current tank. and if the parents spawn again I'm gonna leave the eggs to their own devices, and see what happens.
but hopefully the warmer water will stop the spawns for now at least.

Hi §tudz :)

It's natural to lose some fry out of a batch, so don't worry too soon.

If you're using the bare bottomed tank method, it's most important to keep the bottom clean and free from the film that tends to build up there. If you rub it with your fingers, or a plastic mesh pad, it will easily come off and can be removed during your daily water changes.

Keeping the bottom free of harmful bacteria that feed on the film will save the fry from bacterial infections that they do not yet have the immune systems to cope with.

Some cory breeders suggest using sand as a substrate right from the start on the theory that it will keep the harmful bacteria down. I hesitate to do that because then there's no way to see what's going on in there. It's something to think about though. :)
