C.trilineatus: Breeding Like Rabbits...

:hyper: That is a lot of fry. Those pics are too cute. I am very jealous now :grr: .

Good luck dude, hope it all works out.

I've just moved some of the 5-6 month old bronze and same aged panda fry into my quarantine tank, ready for the LFS. So my fry tank is now full of small 3-4 month old pandas. Oh, and some of the otos from my last spawn.

Keep us updated with pics, I love watching cories grow.

:good:

We its day two for some of the fry, and edging onto day three for some others.
As I had some hatch late the day before last (Saturday) and rest hatched throughout the day until about 2am Monday morning, so I have fry in all different stages.

Here's a little photo of some of them huddled together:

:good: Well done, looks like you've got your hands full with those little critters. Hope we get a nice long diary this time, with plenty growth and progress.

What kind of tank setup have you got? I can't remember if I've asked or seen it before.

:D

For the fry. Can't believe how much of their yolk sacs they've already absorbed in your newest pic. They change so quickly.

:D

Yeah, I thought it was just me, but I thought that were growing VERY fast too...
These seem to be at the stage that my others were after the first week.

They are currently in a clean bottom, 3 Gallon, Tank. It has an air stone running in it.
I have order two small sponge filters, which I will add when the arrive hopefully they have arrived now,
so I cant fit them when I get homr from work.

They are amazing to watch, they sit in two huge groups, one in each of the furthest corners, piled on top of each other.
And when I turn the light on, they burst open with energy and it looks like a little swarm of dirt floating about.

if they keep growing at this rate I'll have to divide them up by next week into the other 3gallon as well,
and then after that I think I'm going to have to buy a long shallow tank for them,
hopefully that wont be till after the 14th of next month when I get paid.

they are so much more active than my last batch too, there are always some of them milling about all over the tank as well,
hunting now some liquifry, which they are munching on madly, until my culture is ready.

some of the fry have used their yold totally and other still have a large amount.

:good: Sounds good. It's always a good sign that they're active and looking for food, because they're obviously thriving then. Sounds like you're going to have plenty little tanks around the house just now with baby Trili's in them.

:D

Well were on day 4 now, and I've added a sponge filter, I bought two Huey Hung - Water Genius (WG-04) Filters. The filter has like ridges on it, which some of the fry like to sit on, lol, its like a little tower block for them.

I've finally got a decent culture going, so I am feeding the worms to them and some Liqui-fry as well, just in case :D

How many worms do you add at a time? I'm using a cocktail stick to scoop them ou and adding about 3-6 scoops of them each time, I'm only feed twice a day, once around 8am, and again when I get in from work at at 7.30pm. All the fry seem to be doing fine, which is good, they are huge now, frowing SO fast.

I'll see if I can get some pics tomoz, as I'm off tomoz :) yay!! but I@m shattered at the moment so need to sleep, if I can get these fry to survive I may write a little article describing:
- the setup for the parents
- how to care for and the parents
- Fry tank setup
- Micro worms
- Setting up a culture
- maintaing a culture
- Looking after and feeding the fry

as there has been a massive out cry for this, and there is not one place that describes it all in any detail, its all very vague, and useless. and would also help other people I would think when they get eggs.
Obvisouly I've done a lot of things different to the standard, but then is there a right way of doing it ;)

right well, off to bed, g.night all :) and I'll try and get those pics tomoz.

Sounds good. Where did you get the Huey Hung sponge filters from? I've been looking for these for a while. Only found huge one's on ebay.

Sounds like you're feeding them right. Pity you can's squeeze another feed in there, but I understand that you work, so the babies will get used to just 2 feeds.

As always, look forward to pics.

:D

The fulters on ebay were big, and the small ones I did find were about £10, but I got mine for... wait for it.... £4 each :D yay!!!

I bought them from the net at this website: Atlantis Aquatics

They excepted paypal which was great, as I'ma little nroke until I get paid :( and I had a load of cash in my paypal account :D

I ordered the filters on Friday night and they were here on tuesday, so pretty quick too.

Right time to get dressed  gotta go out for a few hours, I'll try and get some pics of the fry today, they are all over the tank, until I switch the light on then they run away to hide in groups until the filter and in the corners ;)

Ok just a question, as you can see in the first pic, the fry have white bellies, I gather this is the microworms they have eaten? and not fungus :(

Morning §tudz

Great pics, you have got really clear pics of them, it's looks great.

As for the white bellies, that is indeed the microworms. It's good that you can see how full their bellies are, so you're able to tell if they're eating. They look nice and fat. I have some of that Tetra Prima that I feed after a few weeks, along with the microworms, and with some fry you see a pink belly, and poop  !! But it's all good signs that you're able to see how they're developing.

Now, on a sadder side. You may loose some fry, don't think it's anything to do with you or that they're all doomed (although you obviously check and make sure all is well). It's just natural that they WON'T all survive. Some reach a certain size and die. I still loose an odd panda or two, who look absolutely perfect with no deformities or illness, but they die non the less. It's natures way of keeping the population in check. Even once they've reached a good size, you may find a few losses.

And watch out for jumpers. At a few months, they are able to jump out the tank. I lost a bronze fry once, about 5 months old who jumped out when I didn't put their lid on properly. I only found the poor thing the next day, under my bed  . I was very upset with myself for not securing their lid.

Keep up the good work and look forward to your daily pics.

Keep well
Carmen :D
