Breeding My Discus

I sometimes want to eat my young. But they smell horrible!

Try A1 steak sauce, or splash of Tabasco.....I find that always helps mask the taste!

Goodluck with the remaining babies.

Egg yoke and Spirulina mix.... Ummm tastes soooooo goooooooooood!

The remaining fry all died through the night. Am not sure what I did, as they were feeding well. I changed the water before I went to bed, as I had been doing, so I am at a loss as to what it was.

:shout: This was your best attempt and progress is always a success! The parents will probably be more patient next time and stop using them as an appetizer. Or maybe, they will only lose their cool with a few of them. :) :good:

Yep, getting closer

Ick! I hope that was supportive. I read it back and I did a brain shattering shrug. :) I didn't want to say how we are all following this thread and all of our hopes and dreams are relying on these discus babies!

Have I said the wrong thing again? :X

No way, it is the support of you guys that keeps me trying

. I try not to get attached to any of my fish, and they are a hobby(a great hobby) that I really enjoy, and like the challenges such as this. Now I need to get another good batch of eggs from my guys, so need to condition them. They are looking a bit fed up at the moment, but I will perk them up with some tasty snacks of live food, and trick them with some cooler water......... Seconds Out! Round 12

Let's get ready... ...to RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I moved the pairs around, while I was having a re-jig. We had a cool night 2 nights ago, air temp dropped to about 25, even though the water was only down to 27C. Just to be safe I popped a heater in to the upper tank(as this water feeds the lower). I have also plumbed a filter to the tap feed(on the right of the tank) just to lower the TDS a little. The fish were looking bored today and not very interested in getting it on, so I opened the tap a bit more and turned the water over faster, and the pair of blues have suddenly woken up and looking like they might be feeling a tingle in their loins

They other pair, now in the lower tank, are still looking lazy

Hi DTD,

I hope this message finds you and your amazing looking Discus well.

I stumbled over your journal last night and started reading. Two hours past me by I was so captivated by the wonderful pictures and posts that I didn't realise the time and I was only on page 16.

Unfortunately the laptop battery died, which made me realise the time. So as soon as I returned from work I continued the journey, eager to find out how the story was going to end.

I admire your determination and perseverance and also appreciate allowing me an insight in to your world of Discus, you are now responsible for getting me hooked.

Please keep up the journal and I'm sure that your luck will change for the better soon.

Darren

Darren,

Kind words indeed, thank you. I am glad it has been worth a read. I will keep going until I have it cracked. Am so close now, and it has been a journey of discovery for me and taught me so much about my fish. I know that there are very likely people here who can breed these fish in their sleep, and would probably laugh at my antics, but there is so much satisfaction(and a lot of disappointment) in trying to work it all out alone.

Cheers,
Phil
