Breeding My Discus

Unfortunately I have to pop over to Afghanistan for a few weeks of work, so will need to put the breeding story on hold

. I will move both pairs back to the big tank, and then restart when I get back home. Sorry

Gosh! I didn't think these fry were so tiny!

It's a pity Phil, but as you say, you keep learning. I was thinking though about the water; it could just be bad luck that day. I have been living in developing countries long enough to know that water quality isn't always stable. One day it might be good and the next day, -I don't know what- might be in it. For that reason I always use bottled water in Mexico. I understand it might be expensive for daily water changes, but maybe use it while having fry?

It could have well been the case

, and I know a lot of breeders who rear the fry artificially, do so in pure RO water. I have an RO filter, so if I get to the same point next time I will do that. I think bottled water has a slightly to high pH for Discus, as I tested some before(out of interest) and it was 8.

The good thing is that I have worked out the food for them, using eggs and spirulina. They fed on it very well.

Still learning

Hey Dude,

My new discus (only been in the tank a week - I thought they were still settling in!) have decided to breed!!

Would I be right in thinking that there is absolutely NO chance of any surviving?

Well I was panicked that one or two of them weren't settling in - I know that they can take more than a week to settle which is why I was so surprised to find them laying!

Hope you get back to your fishies soon!

My jack spawned again! They are two weeks old. I thought we were gonna reaise babies together...how are your pairs doing?
