Arcadia Arc 60 Diary

Haha, thats algea pearling on the outside of the coconut not eggs!! The eggs are in the cave behind her and she is facing towards the other two fish.

And the worst thing about it is I cant even remove the cave to give it a good scrub, just incase it contains more eggs.

Hey crew hows it going im glad everyone helps eachother out on this forum its like tesco every little helps :) oh i may have aquired a pair of apisto steel blues what a result

Well some good news and some bad news.

Bad news is that the Male Apisto is no more, I came down one morening last week and he was dead on the bottom of the tank
Went straight on the hunt for a new male but could not find one anywhere, being the impatient person I am I went to my LFS and bought 2 Gold Rams and a Baby BN Plec (to deal with the small amount of Algea that has built up due to the amount of light the tank gets)

The 2 Female Apistos were sold on to a local breeder for peanuts, and in went the Gold Rams, and also I have put some stems in that I have trimmed out of my main tank to try and help curb the algea. Here are some pics of the tank and the new fish.

And here are the Rams, when I purchased them the male was Gold but since he has been in my tank he has quite a bit of blue in him, I dont know if this is because he needs time to settle in or if he is maybe a cross between a Gold and Blue Ram? but he was definitely Gold in the shops tank lol.

In the near future I would like to add a small number of small fish to hang out in the top half of the tank, but they will need to be able to cope with the decent flow that is created by the filter, any sugestions welcome :good:

Hello Livewire, Im sure you will benefit from selling those Aggies localy especially with me in the picture :) but as for other tank mates just get some cardinals mate they will go lovely and look great

Little update,

The rams did spawn a few times and I had around 20 fry hatch last week, for some reason the male Ram decided to guard the fry directly under the filter pick up pipe! he was doing a great job of keeping the fry clear of the pick up pipe intill I dropped some food in the tank! the male swam over to have some food, then most of the fry swam to close to pipe and got sucked up into the filter

I opened the filter but could only find one fry, I guess the rest got sucked into the media and sponges and I couldn't find them, to make things worse when I re primed the filter the two parts of the spraybar separated slightly therefore the spraybar was not agitating the surface of the water, and as the water is kept warm with the rams the O2 level must have dropped to low. I hadn't noticed that the pipe was loose and found the male dead this morning and the female gasping  only then did I spot the issue with the spray bar

Anyway went to my LFS and bought a proper Golden Ram (not a blue/gold cross like I had), put him in and straight away he hit it off with the female and is already cleaning the rocks ready for the female to spawn, she looks like she is carrying eggs from the last male anyway.

ps; due to the spawning I had to remove the BN plec to make sure he didn't eat the eggs, and therefore Algae has slowly built up in the tank which is a pain.

Also forgot to mention that I have a LED light unit on order from ps3steveo which I cant wait to get going on this tank

Dude, you certainly don't have any luck with fish lately.
Love the new Gold Ram though.I really should start using RO

Some pictures of the tank with some temporary plants till I can purchase the plants I want.

It turns out that the glass lid was toughened glass so I couldnt get that cut  luckily (the father-in-law) got me a new lid cut from a new piece of glass and it fits a dream :)

More pics to come tomorrow when the fish are added, I am debating adding a small group of a type of Rasbora but am unsure if this would work with the Agassizii. I will have to do some reasearch and decide in the near future.

How has this tank worked out. I'm about to get it and was wondering how the filter, heater and light have worked out? Also is the heater adjustable to a certain temperature? Thanks!

Hello, I have not used the filter or heater that came with the tank, Using an APS1000 external filter and a 200w Hydor Inline heater.

The filter that comes with the tank is powerfull and will work fine in the tank, also the heater is adjustable so you should not have any problems. recently upgraded the lighting on this tank to high power LED's (purchased from PS3stevo) and they are great :good:
