Arcadia Arc 60 Diary

Lovely! Did you buy it off internet and if so, where?

Do you mean the tank? or the fish?

I bought the tank from Rocketrading, the fish were bought from a breeder I located on Ebay, (who only lived 15 miles from me)

Both fish have been keeping a low profile and are quite shy (they do come out to eat and also when I am not close to the tank), I will be trying my best to get a good picture at the weekend, I have a lot of plants to plant so I think they may be hid away for a little while longer.

I'm betting that Lu was asking about where you got the betta. Who cares about awesome and wild apistos near a betta like that :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I actually love apistos too...

Did you get your Apistos from Nailsea by any chance? Thats the breeder I got my Cacs from and they're awesome, if your Agassizii breed I am reserving some fry now :good:

Yep thats where they came from :) :good:

Update, firstly I obviousley was not sold the fish that were in the picture in my first post!! but the fish I have are nice anyway so I am happy

After days and days of hiding I have managed to get a half decent pic of the pair, I call them a pair but the male seems to spend half his life chasing the female round as if he wants to kill her  but I have discovered that feeding live food (brine shrimp) makes the male calm down for an hour or so and he even sits next to the female and she turns a lighter colour which is nice to see, but then its back to the normal chasing theme

I have been using RO water because my tap water is stupid high in Nitrates and also has a high PH 8.2, im adding the Minerals back to the RO water with Tropic Marin Pro-Discus Mineral. Plant wise for the time being I have just dumped few stems in the tank to give the female some cover but once I source the plants I want I may try and make a nice scape (if I can do such a thing lol) so this tank will more than likley turn into a jungle wich I like anyway.

Comments/advice welcome :)

Oh it was a great start anyway. Looks clean and pretty. Later I bet it will be fun to go nuts in there with plants, but you have something nice to look at till then.

Just a few updated photos, any advice welcome :good: Still looking for some HC :-(

I would like to build a LED lighting set up, but need to do a lot of reasearch before I attempt anything. If only ps3steveo would give me a guide :/

Great pics matey, the male is very metallic!

Thanks, I am not to fond of the male at the moment because he spends 90% of the time chasing the poor female around!! the other 10% of the time they are best of friends.

Almost a mirror image of me and the missus, lol

Maybe a change of fish is called for mate? The female won't be able to take that much longer.

Any chance you could swap the male for another?

On a serious note, does this sort of thing happen a lot with dwarf cichlids?
More often than not peeps seem to have this sort of problem, or is it user error (sorry dude, not having a dig, just lost my female Bol Ram, after more than a year)
