Arcadia Arc 60 Diary

Apistos are so cute im making some caves for mine out our black bamboo ive grown, needs a trim,my excuse for cutting some and sticking to it lol!!!YL.

Strange thing happened today! came home from work for my lunch and dosed the tank with ferts and liquid Co2 like I do every day, as usual as soon as I approach the tank both fish start going mad thinking they are going to get fed. I went out to the kitchen and made a sandwich and ate it, 20 mins later I go back to the tank to and turn the lights on.

The female is there but the male is no where to be seen  I spend the next 10 mins looking around the whole tank but I cant see him!! so I do a quick check of the floor to make sure he had not jumped out whilst I was putting the liquids in, but he is not on the floor and he is definitely not in the tank and he is not on the floor.

All I can say is this will go down as one of life's unsolved mystery's because I have no clue where he has gone
So I will be off to buy a new male at the weekend.

I hate when that happens... did he manage to get into the filter inlet or underneath the stand??

Well there is no way he would have been sucked up into the filter as he was far to big, & he was not on the floor because I searched everywhere.

I have been thinking about it and I reckon he jummped out of the tank, was flopping round on the floor and my (tiny) dog has spotted him flopping round and ate him!! my dog loves tuna so I guess it is possible he thought it was some nice fresh fish (which it was I guess) and could not miss the oppertunity to eat it.

That's really unfortunate :(

You literally must be the unluckiest person ever...
Good luck with the new male addition!

Update, recently decided to add a pressurized Co2 system to this tank so decided tear it down and start a fresh.

Using an up inline diffuser and a 2kg FE. I have added a nice piece of wood and planted some Crypts and HC in groups around the base of the wood, some bits of Frogbit and a piece of Java Fern Trident tied to the filter pipe, had to use a rock to hold the wood up and still have to move the other rock around a bit. Hopefully the HC will spread so fingers crossed. Dumped a big lump of java fern in the corner, am going to tie some different types of moss to the wood in a few weeks, fissidens fontanus, Starr Moss and weeping moss, will be adding a load more crypts in between the wood and filling the left hand side up with Pogostemon Helferi.

A young German Blue Ram has been added to replace the escapee Gold Ram. Could have got an other Gold Ram but wanted a German Blue to go with the Gold Female. 5 Pink Ramshorne Snails, 2 Zebra Snails, and I have 10 Orange shrimp waiting to go in once all the moss has been tied to the wood.

Early days yet and a fair bit to add and grow,

That's going to look fantastic when it grows in.
That's such a nice piece of wood.

Looking good dude, legs will be posted with Helferi tomorrow. :)

Just a quick updated picture;

I have put a black background on both my community tank and the Arc60, here is an updated picture of the Arc60, the HC seems to be growing but not along the substrate as I would like it to! I have ordered some Colombo Florabase in Black and also some Landscape Rock. I don't think the HC will carpet with the Eco Complete substrate but I will give it some more time. I also have a Tiger Lotus which I will be replacing the Java fern with shortly.

And a pair of glass lily pipes are on the way in the post so I can get rid of the black filter pipes.

looking good mate, tbh you don't really notice the black pipes with the black back ground, I'm gonna be doing some clear acrylic DIY inlet and outlets soon too and will cost peanuts so keep an eye in the DIY section as I found lily's dont give as good flow as standard pipes.

Cheers Steve,

The only reason I have opted to go with the lily pipes is because now I am using an inline difuser the spray bar is pointed down and I am getting a film on the surface, hopefully the outflow lily pipe will create a vortex to suck the film off of the surface, this is what people claim lily pipes are capable of doing anyway.

Fingers crossed. :good:

Just a quick updated pic to show a little more growth. Getting rid of the Rams soon and yet to decide what to replace them with?
