Arcadia Arc 60 Diary

I purchased a second Female today and have put her in the tank, things seem ok now as the Females are sticking together and the male seems a tad more relaxed.

This was after taking some advice from the breeder who I bought them from as he said having an extra female would help as the makes aggression would be spread across the two Females, and he also said that this is normal behaviour for Apistos

Fingers crossed this will work, on a different note I managed to get hold of some nice HC today. I have next week off work so I may attempt to plant some with a pair of tweezers and try and get a carpet going along with the Helferi.

hope it works out this time

I almost posted to you about your ratio when you first bought them. I had a group of 2 males:4 females, and none seemed overly stressed. Maybe you can end up with them both caring for fry at the same time!! haha Your male must be feeling like the top dog now! or top fish that is

Good luck with the HC

As for the advice from the breeder... If the breeder had sold you the ones he sent you the pic of then this probably wouldn't have happened

You may have to be prepared to remove a female to your 200 if he spawns with one as he may attack it.

Not all Apisto's are hareem fish, my Cac's are so laid back it is untrue.

Very true, it was just I was told they were a pair so assumed they would be used to it just being the two of them, I guess he just had enough of her and wants some fresh ummm fish

I have to say he does look rather happy now,

Not looking forward to planting the HC but if it works out I will be happy, and yes it should not be a problem moving a female to the Roma if need be at a later date, if so just hope she wont eat all the small shrimp  also have a 25litre tank running in the garage with a cycled filter just incase I am lucky and wake up to baby Apistos. One can only hope.

Talking about laid back fish, my White Betta wont even flare at himself in the mirror.

Just a quick update, since adding the second female the male seems to have chilled right out.

The original pair were even inside a coconut cave together today witch would have never happened a few days ago.
The female has also turned slightly yellow, but the new female is staying out of the way for now.

ohh, the competition amped up the first girl then. Happens a lot with humans too

Good news, I have Eggs in the tank!! look at mother

lol I thought that too. They must feel really secure with their own tank to dominate.
