Aquatics Place I Won't Be Returning To!

Found a shop in Plymouth, Devon to avoid, it contained 40 to 50 tanks, all full of fish, alot just laying on the bottom or floating dead. a fair few of the tanks had so much algea on the glass you couldn't even see inside! These tanks were still stocked! the name of the place is Devon Tropicals.

yes i went in that lfs last time i was down in plymouth

kens tanks was dirty didnt look like they was cleaned in a long time

i walked in and walked out my m8 sed i did say this place was bad in the way the tanks was but good prices in fish when i was down there couple wks ago i saw no fish dead tho and was half emtpy with fish it was there two thursdays ago i was in there
i went to 4 lfs shop that day hes was the worse i have seen evan worse then pets at home in taunton


not good at all is it he looked like he didnt care abt the tanks i did say to him ill run your shop for u and have it running prob and clean with in couple wks but he sed no thanks not looking for anyone to work here

i sed the offer is there.
as dan sed i think u have that shop turning over more money then he cld if it was clean and heathly disease free tanks

OK. I have decided to visit Golls on Sat. It's only a couple of mins away from me. I'm needing some frozen bloodworms and will be looking for some substrate too. I use the nursery quite a bit. I allways make a point of walking around looking at the fish. So I will be able to update you guy's on my observations, monday. Will I be bumping into fellow FF's there all having a butchers.

He did have some good prices on some fish, but i think i won't be buying from there in a rush! They used to be fantastic a few years ago.

The couple who run are now getting old and maybe it's getting abit too much, I've seen a couple of youngster's in there cleaning etc, but I don't how well trained they are or if they care? I'll have a good butchers sat.

yes ill be going in there on sat aswell (28th) Devon Tropicals just to see wot its like this wk ill let u all know when i get bk home around 10.30pm as ill be catching the last train bk from plymouth to taunton at 7.50pm

Let me know what it's like in there Seanie, Maybe i caught him on an off day, but i won't buy if there are more than two dead fish in a tank and a few tanks filthy! But then in some tanks he did have some nice looking fish!

He could in all fairness have been about to clean the tanks! and as the shop gets alot of sunlight straight onto the tanks this may explain the algea! but still didn't look very nice! I'll pop in there tomorrow and have another look!

I know Devon Tropicals quite well.

He may not keep the cleanest tanks but all the fish look healthy when ever i've been in.
Also he breeds loads of syno's there so he knows a thing or two about them

I have to admit though i've not been in there for almost a year though.

my m8 dan sed hes fish is good but the tanks are filthy and algea on the class and on every thing in the tank evan the gravel it was growing some tanks u cldnt see in to see wot fish was in there

only the tanks that had plecs bristlenose in u cld just see in the tanks

i didnt see any dead fish in there when i was in there and didnt buy anything as i was only looking

whats wrong with algae? a lot of my LFS tanks have it on the side and rear walls of the tank. and when you have 300+ tanks to see to daily its not fun! but the fish dont look like theyre in good nick

I think he has about 40 tanks, nothing wrong with algea on the sides or back.. but when it's at the point you can't see whats in the tank! atleast give it a scrape! I think he was charging 80p for black skirt tetras so tempted to get some from him!

nothing wrong with algae bt not when u cant see in the tank what he has for sale plus nothing on the class what he has for sale or prices when i was in there last i ask him for some fish he sed cant be brothered to catch them i sed thats not the way to run the shop just becuase u cant be ####ed to catch some fish and earn some money theres no point openning up
