Aqua One 60L My First Ever Planted Tank

Looking good, those Black Phantom's are neat, tempted to get some myself.

what sold me is when i ordered some stuff from aquaessentials, they send you a leaflet thing with a pic of a planted tank and a school of black phantom tetra. i was like  im getting some of those

They are a lovely fish. Subdued coloring and an elegant shape.

6 neon tetra added, hygrophila polysperma removed as it kept getting sucked into powerhead and over shadowing the hc, java moss removed as it got swamped with algae, most of the valis nana has died. the crypt is getting covered in algae too but i guess thats because its a slow grower, hopefully the shrimp or ottos will give that a clean when i get some. gonna add some more eleocharis parvula for the background and really happy with the colour of my rotala rotundifolia.

hc doing well, neons doing well too which im suprised with because most people say they are not suitable in newly setup tanks

Very pretty. Why do you have algae? Tell me and we can maybe fix this.

Sometimes, with planted systems, the tank is better able to accomodate the more delicate species initially.

not sure why i have the algae, the algae on my crypt leaves is the usual brown stuff that covers the glass and rock. the algae that covered the java moss looked like hair algae and ive noticed very small patches on the hc and the leftover val nana.

havent tested my water for a while but it could be a little ammonia or nitrite as they showed up last week, lights are on for 7 hours a day and dosing 2ml of tpn+ and 2ml of excel daily.

This tank is coming along really nice :) i love the way it looks. Quite Jealous :good:

thanks matt, might seem like ive complained alot but im really happy with this tank especially as its my first attempt. i only started keeping fish last november.

got 3 ottos today, pics soon. theyre already going to work on the crypt leaves so soon my tank will be algae free :)

Well, diatoms usually just go away, but otos like eating them. If you sent a picture of the other algae, we could get a more positive id.

Looking good :good: You need to soak your C02 diffuser to get the algae off it. Soak it overnight in 1 part bleach and 5 part warm water. Then in the morning, soak it in de-chlor for half an hour. You will notice a difference with the C02 diffusion.

ill try and get some decent pics today when i photograph the ottos. i actually like the algae on the rock at the moment, it gives it a nice colour.

thanks ian i was wondering how to get rid of that, thought the ottos might have a munch on it. ill get that done tonight.

tried to photograph the algae but just couldnt get it to show up, its way too fine and transparent

crypt, should i cut the dying leaf off?

Ooh that Otocinclus is cute, I might have to see if I can get some.

I'd leave that crypt leaf, just wait and see what happens to it, if it continues to brown and dies cut it off.

they are pretty nice looking and cleaned those crypt leaves overnight

i need to remove all the valis thats leftover next water change, i think i may have split it into too many portions when i first planted it but its never grown and just melted bit by bit. reallly dissapointed as thats one of the plants i most wanted to do well.

hc ruined by algae  was looking really nice too
