DISCLAIMER- Not intended to offend and contains some exaggeration for vaguely comic effect.

When I set out to establish my tropical tank I had a shortlist of fish I just did not want to put in there.. well I say short..

No guppies
No mollies
No platys
No swordtails
No angelfish
No tiger barbs
No lace gouramis
No danios

I suppose my reasoning for that must have been because they are so blinking common! Any petshop you walk into, they're there. Any tom dick or harry who has a random aquarium is bound to have at least one of the above floating aimlessly in it, more than likely the sole survivor of a mysterious mass die off they experienced when they first got their tank! There again it can't be my only reason, as I always knew I wanted neon tetras. No idea why... I love the fact that they are so tiny and pretty though!

At this point I sincerely doubt I will every get excited by the idea of keeping any of the above named.

I was just wondering if anyone else had fish that just don't float your boat or you don't see why there is a fuss about.

Does this mean I am not a serious fish addict?!!! :-(

all your list plus:

neon tetra (the porshe boxter of fish.....only bought by those that are too tight for tetras / 911)

bristle nose....fugly

betta.....just dont "get" it

piranhna.....pit bull of fish ownership

I have a list too

No Oscars .. too big
actually no cichlids in general ... too agressive, picky about water params, large, and some are too expensive

no plecos... too big
I've justy broken this one and got a rubber lip though .. they are supposed to be smaller.

anything saltwater ... everyone in this freakin state is all about the salt water... I've got a saltwater specialty shop not a block from my house... pretty but a pain IMO

Live bearers... can we say "water rabbits"?
Actually I've been thinking of taking that back and trying some Endlers or those native "lesser killies" that is actually a livebearer (formosa somethinganother)

No neons .. too common
Actually the only tetra I like are the pristellas

No barbs ... dont know why ... just dont like em.

No clown loaches... there are very few loaches I like

NO GOLDFISH ... BUT PEOPLE KEPT GIVING EM TO ME... :grr: I've got a lovely garden pond for them

Anything so agressive it has to be species only

And after all that I still have 7 tanks and a shelf of betta bowls
54 fish in all not counting the 5 pond fish

at least my husband thinks I'm a fish addict!!!

Uhh...I'd never want a
Puffer,
Plec, scary and just a nuisance
mollies are just a pain as well, arent pretty enough for the trouble
Goldfish...just too big, I like them in my neighbours pond only, lol
Neons
Danois and snails and shrimp....lol...on the other hand, I want every Oscar, Severum, and red devil, but I only own atm a 10gallon...LOL...dream on, I know, I know

Never wanted neons. Not terribly keen on guppies either although I adore endlers.
Pirahnas, I know it's daft but ick.
Parrotfish.
Balloon mollies.
I'm sure there are others. Just none that spring readily to mind.
Hugs,
P.

The fish is Poecilia Sp. "Endlers", or
commonly called, "Endler's Livebearer".

They might be guppies. Guppies as in wild type guppies. They're about the
size of wild guppies, and generally resemble them in many ways except
for two things: first, they're always double swordtails, and second
the coloration is different. They have 4 or five streaks of color
that cover the whole body, one of bright orange, one of black one
of bright metallic green and a couple of something else but I can't remember them.

Absolute no to big messy fish now that my plec has gone to his new home! All those years of cleaning up after him....ugh

Tnx

No tetras...no personality, IMO.
No mollies...I have NEVER had any luck with them.
No guppies...I could keep them healthy but they would die for no reasen and last less then a year.
No platies...had luck with a few but they never lasted that long.

Thats about it I think.

All fish are vertebrates - it means they have bones. Do you mean invertebrates? (snails, crabs, etc...)
