The way we keep fish today has been through debate and experimentation. If this forum must stick to a particular method and not allow members to discuss other possibilities then it is at risk of being left in the dark

What ever you like. I use this system all the time. it is based around biological filtration. How about instead of fish use daphnia as your “test subjects”. Great indicator and used in scientific experiments everywhere.
Of course not! I was miss-interpreted. There was a leading question asked of you concerning your methodology of tank maintenance from someone who has sadly succumb to their own misfortune of losses and disease whilst using methods that seem to be written in stone here and mustn't be challengedI don't keep fish to get diseases in the last 10 years have had one case of white spot due to a power failure. Raised the temperature of the tank to fix it lost about 8-10 fish
It is nice to see at least one person on this site is willing to think about their fish keeping practices and look outside the world of potions. Thank you for being reasonableOf course not! @Finsfinal if you are implying about me please realize that as a moderator it is my responsibility to monitor the posts and comment as needed. We do not condone using fish as test subjects. Pure and simple. How about instead of fish use daphnia as your “test subjects”. Great indicator and used in scientific experiments everywhere.
Also some of you need to stop being aggressive to others, this is a fish forum, not a place to babble about fish shouldn’t be put at harm.
Everything we do with fish keeping is an experiment and the fish are our subjects. We have no idea most of the time what is going on all we do is guess.@Finsfinal if you are implying about me please realize that as a moderator it is my responsibility to monitor the posts and comment as needed. Is there any body out there who wants to see if we can develop a system that requires us to use no dechlorinating products. Completely natural. It will require you to set up a tank that we would do a series of tests on to check for it's stability. Ultimately leading to a process for aquarists that meant no additives would be needed to be added to the tank.
@Lumpfish Guy I agree 100%. If someone wants to research in their own then I have no say so. However, due to the laws that you stated, we cannot condone or accept “challenges” of such matter on our forum. If members wish to exchange contact info and work together privately, I have no issues. I appreciate everyone’s understanding in this.Ok steady on everyone.
I am all for challenging the status quo in attempts to improve the maintenance of our aquariums. But:
1) you should not be experimenting on fish, this is against animal experimentation laws and requires licences, ethics reviews by appropriate qualified people
2) If you have an idea which you believe will help great, but please try and back this up with evidence, I know there is not a lot of documented published information on ornamentals but by saying "this has been done for so long" does not evidence make. (There is FYI a body of work demonstrating the effectiveness of current dichlorination treatments)
3) A little respect goes a long way
No I haven't never heard of this until I came on to this site. I have come up with this on my own.@itiwhetu have you read Diana Walstad's book or seen her interviews?
The 5th question is about dechlorinator. But no where does she say not to use it.May i just state that this does not talk whatsoever about experimenting with fish/the use of dechlorinater
