As for the rest of the thread, it seem's to be being handled, keep it clean guys, no personal attacks from either side.

sorry itty, i meant to say "along the lines of what itty said"

Then put them next to eachother and watch them flare. No need for actually fighting. Seeing them display is much better imo.

bkk. i dont think he is a profesional hoo does it for sport. He cant let the betta back into thew wild becuz he doesnt live in thailand. And Theemon it doesnt matter the size of ur tank the betta will still get to the other one. ur 40 gal im sure isnt as big as a lake in thailand.

I agree. The differences with fighting bettas in the wild or at home in a tank, are much too great. The biggest being, that at least the fish has a chance to escape in the wild...something it cannot do confined in a tank.

this is ment to be a friendly forum but also a fish lovers forum. in the banners i see Fish forever. So im sorry if i flame at you but ur not ment to do it. its cruel, harsh, unfair.

Yet another great statement, Bea/\/. This is a forum for fish lovers...it's for that reason I came here. To learn how to better treat my fish with the best care and respect they deserve. And yes, I know that the people of Thailand do care for their fish like gods, but this isn't Thailand.

when i sed ur 40 gal isnt the size of a lake and u sed ur going to separate them u took me rong. wat i ment was that the other betta cant get away in a 40 gal tank wen theyre fighting. in a lake they can. and if u wanna see agression put in some brine shrimp or feederfish. or as Auratus sed put them next to eachother.

Agreed. This way you won't be causing any harm to either fish, and you can still see them flare their fins and extend their frills. Another way would be to place a mirror up against the side of the tank. Just the reflection of the 'other fish' will get a reaction out of them.

P.S : even us tough Aussies (who love fights where i come from)wouldnt even fight bettas. we'd rather watch a game of footy.
yes, this is why i have a problem with the "new school" of betta fighting i see popping up on websites all the time. i cringe when i think of a bunch of testosterone jocks getting together without a clue what it's all about. most people who know me know that i don't come on this board to promote fighting. i breed all types of bettas (in fact, my crown-tails just had kids ;) ..passes out cigars). i just hope that some of what people like itty and myself say about the true facts regarding fighter culture has some value to some of you who are curious about the "roots" out there. ;)

I wouldn't mind if you passed out those betta frys, either! :)

For somebody who doesn't even know what sparring is, you've obviously done very little research! I'll say this, TFF is not the place to learn about the 'sport'. Nobody here on the public forums wants to hear about it nor will they encourage it so have some discretion and keep things to yourself from now on :)

I strongly recommend that you avoid it altogether, IMO the only acceptable form of fighting is by those who truly have roots to the culture, a grandfather who did it back in Thailand for example. A person who knows how to properly condition and prepare a fish because they grew up seeing it hands on. Not somebody who sits at home researching it on the internet

My family has generations of breeding and fighting gamecocks. Actually, my mom's side does. And they were pretty good at it, too. But That's about as far as my knowledge goes of that sport.

i agree exactly. for someone hoo doesnt knwo what sparring is shouldnt be keeping more then 1 male fighter.
