1 week into quarantine with the padamya barbs. Somebody please tell me to stick with it. I HATE quarantining. I want to see them in the tank! AAAAAARRRRRRRG!!!

Honestly... you know what is best... I still haven't got my quarantine tanks here yet... so I'll only order fish from Dan's again, before I get the quarantine tanks set up... so if you got them from a premium dealer, & they aren't a fish farm raised species... you are likely fine... but beware, I bought some fish recently from a "bread & butter" seller, & some of those fish arrived not looking very good... I added them to the tank, & got an outbreak of Ich... unfortunately the Yellow Axelrodi Rainbows in the tank didn't handle the Ich ( all got it ) & or the required procedure to get rid of it, & I lost all 4 of those fish... so the danger is real...

Mine are from the local pet store, and their supplier frequently sends really sick fish. So yeah, I have to stay the course. But bleah. I am not naturally a patient person.

"Let us into the big river tank!" say the padamya barbs. "We are healthy! We are shiny! We would look so wonderful in there! We don't need any more quarantine! Let us out!" That's what they say.

One...more...week...have I mentioned I hate quarantining?

The padamya barbs have colored up beautifully in their little 10g qt tank. Brilliant orange sides, bright yellow dorsal fins, blue spangles when the light catches them. Best of all, they are bold and fearless when they think food is forthcoming, which is always. I think that, besides being beautiful in their own right, they are going to be great dither fish for all my shy, wild-caught fish.

I just have to get them out of quarantine.

Hey, I was wondering something... Is there any possibility of the toads deciding that some of the fish would make for a tasty snack?
Not likely. Right now the toads are smaller than any of the fish. Also, they really don't like getting down in the water; they stay up on plants and in the water fall area. When they get bigger? Maybe, but I have very fast fish.

I am gradually moving the terrestrial area toward southwest Chinese and Himalayan plants. I think I'll keep the bittercress, as it's a very nice plant and seems true to the area. I just ordered a couple of Himalayan maidenhair ferns (Adiantum venustum), which are also true to the area and should look very nice. I have pretty much given up on tea, so should probably change the name of my journal.
Anyway, Adiantum venustum:

Two more days before I move in the padamya barbs! I'm excited. They're going to change the whole look for the better, and since they aren't shy AT ALL, always up at the front mugging for food, hopefully they'll be good dithers for the wild-caught loaches and danios.

don't give up on the Tea just yet... my 2 plants will be here probably next week with Christmas... but think they are scheduled for delivery this week... may be more than one way to skin a cat...;)

My trouble is the way I set up my tank--the only place where tea could grow would only allow it to get 4-5 inches tall. I just don't think that's going to work. Still thinking about it, though.

I have never quarantined fish until I got the angelfish I just bought. They are juveniles, so much more fragile than adults, i guess, so the place I bought them has a strict acclimation procedure that i followed.

So far, it's working well. They looked SO bad when I got them, but have survived and are on the verge of thriving. It was a total PITA, but worth it.

I'm warming up to the idea of quarantine, especially with fish I buy online, but not sure I'm there.
