2ft Cube It’s All About The Motion Of The Ocean

that looks pretty good to me mate.

thanks ben

Need some advice peeps...
I have nearly got the cabinet finished now, so i was hoping to get the tank wet by the weekend i was thinking of making 20 gallons of fresh salt mix and bringing it up to temp in the tank, then once that was sorted i was going to transfer every think over from my nano, so i would have 15kilos of live rock + approx 18 ---20 gallons of water to transfer over and the live stock, the idea is that the main display will not be quite full and this would allow me to run the tank sump free for now till i have time to make one and do all the pluming. This would also free up the nano so i can trade it in for some equipment ect :good: {i would rather trade it in now for equipment than end up not been able to sell it :rolleyes: , that would be just my luck :blink: :shout: }

can you see any think wrong with this idea i won’t be adding to the existing stock that comes out of the nano till the tank is setup 100% properly {30kilos+ of rock/ sump running /ect} so would the 15kilos that is sustain the live stock in the nano be enough to do the same in the 50 gallon for now. {3--4 weeks} any advice would be much appreciated as always peeps thanks john o

thats how i did mine. I had my fish in a big plastic container with the corals and filled the tank up with new and old water. Then dripped them in like they were new stock

yeah no probs, as long as you don't go adding to the stock, the live rock will comfortably do the filtration like it has been doing in the nano.

Hey ben rob thanks very much guys :good:
So it’s all good :D i can get the cube up and running :good: , trade in the nano :good:
then in about 3 weeks time pick up my share of the live rock from my m8t, he has the chance to get more than he needed from a tank break down :good:
So yep water containers at the ready the ro unit is going in to over drive ready for the week end  :yahoo:

WTG John,
Nice weir combs.
Keep up the good work, looks really neat.
Whats your lighting gonna be.
Regards
C

yep thanks to you bigC :good: i really appreciate you sending me thoughts there going to fit the job perfectly :D :thanks:

Erm lights are going to be 4x 24w t5s {arcadia luminaries} 2x 14k whites and 2x 420 actinic I know there not ideal for a 2ft deep  and i don’t really want to go down the MH route if i can help it the main reason been the heat and the second the running cost :grr: so that has got me seriously thinking off upgrading to aquarays eventually, i like the idea of low heat and the shimmer effect it looks really cool

I have to say John'o Whilst I have now got 2x55w T5 PC's and 2 18w actinics, I am seriously thinking aquarays myself. Would like to add a double set to the PC's , like you I have fell in love with that shimmer effect. Gonna have to wait on funds but I will have some, even if they are to supplement not replace.

the shimmer effect isnt down to the LED's You get it with a halide too. Its the amount of surface adjitation. A single halide would be my choice on that tank, you already using 100W of electrisity anyway there. PLus the amount you would save with the aqua rays on electric will be outweighed by the initial cost. You would need 4 strips over a 2 square to keep most things. 2' deep isnt ideal for them again

Not sure about John'o, but for me the reason I don't like halides is having to have them so far away from the tank. The height above water really puts me off. Andrew hates the luminaires too, we like having an enclosed hood, which is a benefit in a stone built house in winter.

Ummm
You have me thinking now Ben
It’s not the amount of electricity that the halid uses that puts me off so much, though that is a small part of the reason why i did not want to use one. The main reason is the heat toughs things put out and like tigerissey i don’t like the way they look just hanging there in mid air they look horrible . But having said all that i know the halid has a much better par penetration watt for watt compared to the led’s So after reading your post Ben i went to my lfs just to see what they had in the way of MH and they did have one which would not look so bad in my opinion and it also had a built in fan to cool it down, i think it was called a HaiYang 150w clip on £299 and the lfs owner recommended using a blue aquaray dueo as well £167. The only problem is that I have just goggled the haiyang MH And they don’t get a very good review {cheap plastic feel, easily broken, loud fan ect}so if someone could recommend a really good quality clip on MH I think I could live with the way it looks and again that would just leave me with the heat problem {hope I won’t need a chiller just don’t have the room under a 2ft} so yer if I could get away with the heat off the MH I think I could be swayed towards a really good quality clip on MH if there is such a thing and a aquaray blue

OMG i went to use my RO unit to find a dirty big crack in one of the filler housings
And you guessed it know one knows how it happened  , and to top it all off none of the LFS in the area have a spare in stock :shout: , so i am going to have to order one from RO man, {next week some time for delivery} and in the mean time ro water from the LFS to do water change on the nano arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

Back to the lights Ben
If i can find a nice looking, good quality 150w clip on MH then you’ve sold it to me that’s the way i will go with a blue aquaray as my night lights

Any suggestions peeps? any one got one of these clip on MH? are they any good?

buy a halide and legs mate, quite a lot of halides are 600mm long. Thats near as damn 2'. Legs and they look far better than the clip on ones imo!
