2023-2024 NFL Discussion

Hmmm, I was a bit curious about two teams, Dallas and Philly. Are they as good as their record?

With Dallas I would say no just due to their only playing 3 teams that are now at .500 or higher. 10 of their games have actually been against teams that now have a losing record. I think this sort of makes their 10-3 record a bit less impressive. Since I was jumping back and forth between the NFL stands and the Cowboys schedule I MAY be off by a game but don't think so.

Philly is better with playing only 7 teams with losing records and 6 at .500 and above. Still 7 of their wins are against teams with losing records.

So the teams they have played have a combined record of 9-17. Just due to the overall record of the teams they have played I have to come to the conclusion that both are over rated but Philly less so than Dallas. Just took a quick look and, including each other, they only combine for a record of 3-3 against teams with a .500 or better record.

Excellent analysis. I mainly agree however, Dallas clobbered Philly last night. It was ugly.

anyone watch the KC Bills game..... toward the end, with KC losing by 20 to 17, Mahomes and team had a trick play that would have resulted in a touchdown and a win if the play wasnt called back due to Toney's foot being in the neutral zone before the play started.

Ya, Dallas pretty much destroyed Philly on Sunday night but still they split with Philly winning the first game.

I DO have to admit being a bit jaded against both teams for different reasons.

As to Dallas it is due to when I was a kid and getting into football. At that time it seemed that every time Cleveland and Dallas played it meant something. Then there was the 'America's Team' garbage. Ya, that was the media that caused that but it still soured me against Dallas. It was like 'Hey, I'm an American and they are not my team...'.

As to my being sort of anti Philly it is due to an experience over Super Bowl weekend when New England and Philly played in Jacksonville Florida. This is more about a group of Philly fans than the actual team but it still affected how I feel about the team whether fair or not. I was taking my black lab for a walk on the Jacksonville Beach boardwalk and my roomie convinced me to wear a Patriots' jersey she had... she was an extreme Pats fan. I got confronted by a group of Philly fans that said that they would kick by butt if I didn't have such a big dog. Rudy, the black lab' was a beast of 100 pounds of solid muscle. LOL! The word 'butt' isn't exactly the word used along with many other expletives. May not be fair but gave me negative feelings toward the team.

Great story. I also dislike both teams, so I was quite dispassionate about the game last night. I just wanted to see some good football. No horse in the race. I dislike the Eagles because Philly is our neighboring city. I dislike Dallas for the same reasons you do. I don’t care how good Mrs. Jones is to the Dallas community.🤪

Sorry but the video is blocked due to copyright infringement. Still I saw the play and it was the proper call. It wasn't just his foot that was across the line, it was pretty much his whole body to the point that you could not even see the football on a shot down the line of scrimmage. Ya, there is talk of this infraction ending with a warning, not a penalty, but not in this case. If it had just been his foot it well may have resulted in just a warning but almost his entire body was in the neutral zone. There is also argument that this penalty had never been assessed before this play but that is not true. It has been called this season 12-13 times earlier this season... Ya, I looked that up. Seems like a very small number compared to how many plays have happened through the season but it is not a unique call. The KC player is a pro and should know where to line up. The player blew it, not the officials. In reality the officials had no choice but to call the penalty.

Ah, I went to code mode in the quote and copied the video link to Microsoft Edge. Normally I use Firefox but there IS a difference as to some cases as to what you can see with each web browser. My guess is that Microsoft has a contract with the NFL to allow showing such things where Firefox does not. And, yes, it is quite easy to detect what browser is being used to view a site. Once I was able to see your video link I went to the lineup for the play in question and took a partial screen shot of the line of scrimmage.

I've added a couple of text bubbles to explain the situation but here is a still of the lineup.

<Edit to add the following info.>
The neutral zone is the length of the football where it sits. Except for the center no part of a player's body can be in this 11 inch area. The length of an NFL football is 11-11.25 inches. The center is excluded as it would be pretty hard to snap the ball if the hand could not be in the neutral zone... Oh, if they had not called a neutral zone infraction it would have been an illegal formation. ;)

Ugh mahomes is such a big baby. Completely correct call. He’s had the refs in his pocket this whole year, welcome to the real world…newsflash the refs suck this season. Yes the refs didn’t call that PI on the deep shot to MVS, but that trick play offensive offsides was 100% correct. Get over it, chargers have lost at least one game because of a no call, and I’m sure many other teams could’ve won games if not for the refs no calls

The way that the Broncos have been playing lately the Saturday game with Denver/Detroit could be interesting.

On the other hand my Browns against the Bears is one of those games that worry me. Sad to say but the Browns seem to have a habit of 'playing down' to the other team. At least it is in Cleveland so that is a plus. ;)

I'm confused which is normal for me but I REALLY don't get this. Going into last week's games the Bengals were the number 7 seed. The Bengals beat the Colts so how is it possible that the Colts are now the 7 seed and the Bengals the 10 seed? I just can't grasp how a team can move up over a team that just beat them....... :dunno:

I'm ambivalent about the Pats Chiefs game. I usually want the Pats to win and KC is my favorite AFC team this year so I just want to see a good game and want to see the team that plays the best, wins.

49ers vs Cardinals Sunday at 4:15 PM is being shown on local tv. Should be a one sided game as 49ers are awesome and Cardinals stink. But I love watching Brock Purdy play the quarterback position to perfection.

Just did that dangerous thing as in having another thought... ;)

I wonder how many customers Amazon gets for Prime just due to Thursday Night Football... :dunno:

I DO have Prime and pay on a yearly basis as I use it a lot for streaming movies and free shipping. However, if you want it just for football, subscribe on a monthly basis and cancel when the regular season is over. Just re-subscribe at the start of the next season and then cancel again. If you would just want to do Prime for Thursday NFL games this will save you a hefty chunk of money. ;)

Man, I'm rather surprised. Only halftime but the Chargers look to have nothing to put at the Raiders. 42-0 for the Raiders at halftime? ???? This is what I call a boring game!

Oh, come on Raiders... You are up 42-0 and get another TD on a 'trick play'??? Sorry but I just don't like that.

The most points ever scored in an nfl game by one team was by Washington Redskins. They scored 72 points in 1966 against the Giants.
Raiders are leading the Chargers by 56-7 at the start of the 4th quarter. Will they break the record? We shall see soon.
