2023-2024 NFL Discussion

Hmmm, And then Philly plays a .500 team. Imagine that, Philly loses. ;) I rest my case as to Philly and Dallas being over rated. ;)
The Ravens better crush Philly next Monday.

Yeah. I meant the 49ers. They will probably win but I bet it will be a close game.
Don't you love those last pick qbs who turn out to be rather decent of sort.

Opps... LOL! I didn't even notice the team mistake. ;) Ravens/Philly == Ravens. Ravens/49ers == :dunno:

Shoot, QBs drafted in the first round is a fairly recent thing. Used to be common for a QB to be drafted in the 4-7 rounds.

Purdy is excellent but he is also backed by a tremendous, well-rounded team. The 49ers are the team to be reckoned with. Look out Ravens.

With my being a Browns fan I hope you are right. :)

Actually I have a bit of a soft spot for the 49ers and Jets as, when I lived in Florida, Dexter Carter was a client of mine. He was a 1st round pick and played running back and kick returns for the 49ers and then with the Jets. Actually Paul Rochester, defensive tackle for the Jets' Super Bowl 3 team, was also one of my clients.

Browns are doing very well in today's game. They lead 36 to 22 with 4 minutes left. Joe Flaco has passed for 357 yards so far. He's having s stupendous game today.

Dolphins vs Miami are broadcast on local tv station today. Should be a very competitive game.
Looking forward to 49ers / Ravens game on Monday night football.

Ya, Browns won but it was expensive losing their kicker Hopkins to a hammy. The loss of Hopkins is big as there is no way I can see him being able to play against the Jets Thursday.

Actually the Texans didn't score a single point against the Browns starting defense. They scored 15 against defensive subs and the other 7 was a kick return.

Amari and Flacco DID have an awesome game between them with Cooper setting a Browns' record with 265 yards.

Don't know how the NFL figures these things but today's win makes the Browns' chance of making the playoffs at 99%. Can't be 100% unless clinched. To clinch they need to win one more game against either the Jets or Bengals or have someone else lose.

GO FALCONS! Finally a game where they look pretty good. If you see nothing else, find the clip of Taylor Heineke laying out a defender while blocking for Robinson. That's a QB who just wants a dang job

Been meaning to comment on this all week but kept forgetting... Did anyone else notice the Tennessee Titans wearing the old Houston Oilers uniforms last week? Titans used to be the Oilers. I found it a bit funny that the Titans wore the 'throwback' uniforms when playing the Houston Texans. ;) It brought back a lot of memories from when the Oilers were in my Browns' division. One memory was when all the commentators and annalists were calling the Browns division the weakest in the NFL all year yet they sent three teams to the playoffs; Browns, Steelers and Oilers. Somehow that just didn't seem to equate to the weakest division in football. ;) Actually, if either the Steelers or Bengals can win out, the division could send three again. Of course the Ravens are in and the Browns are the next thing to assured. If either the Steelers or Bengals win out they would be 10-7 with a decent chance to make it.

er dolphins vs cowboys; and the dolphins got a really cheap win.

Just a random thought... Why do we seem to have a sense of achievement when our favorite team wins? I mean why the feeling of accomplishment when we had absolutely nothing to do with it? :dunno:  I guess it is accomplishment by proxy. After all the NFL is the modern day form of the Roman gladiators. ;)

And here is a bit of surprising info... We always think of players playing for just about forever but, in reality that is not the case. Sure there are players with very long careers but even though they seem to be all over the place they are really pretty rare. Believe it or not the average NFL career including all positions is only 3.3 years. Here is a graph on the average length of an NFL career by position,

Anyone know where my Browns can get a place kicker by Thursday for the Jets game? Can't believe that they don't have a single player on the team that can even attempt an extra point. Doesn't actually have to be good but you always have someone that can kick in an emergency... My first thought was Cade York whom the Browns released in favor of Hopkins but he is currently signed by the Giants. Can't replace Hopkins as he is a shoe-in for the Pro Bowl team with at least 3 game winning field goals within the last minute of the game this year and has not missed a single field goal of 50+ yards the whole season. Hopkins hammy seems to not be that bad as he is listed as questionable instead of out for the Jets game but I just can't see a kicker being effective only four days after getting a hammy even if it is minor. Hopefully it is really just a strain and not an actual pull. LOL! I'd bet dollars to donuts that there will be a bunch of players trying to prove that they can kick in the next couple pf practices and the Browns will give them all a chance to show what they can do... really they have to. Hopkins likely will be back at least for the playoffs but the Browns are not clinched yet. To clinch on their own they need to win one of the last two games. Even if they lose both they are still probably still in the playoffs but would need a bit of help.
