Ok so yesterday we got the crab as planned
But no coral, no easy to keep corals that are stationary and don't knock s*** over

But my dad just had to buy a Fromia star fish

And when I get home to research it I find out that they absolutely just love to disintegrate if they are not happy.

Just great...

As for me, getting a bubble coral this week and that's it

Do you guys know if two different colored bubbles would hurt each other?

Your dad is a trip.

You know, I've never been interested in a bubble coral. It always looks like it's going to break. They have sweepers, so I'm sure they'll try to sting each other if placed into a tank together and they don't have enough space. But since they are both bubbles, the impact will probably not be severe. Haha, I had a friend with an entire tank of just Euphyllia species. Haha, sweepers were out all the time, but it doesn't have quite the same impact when the thing you're hitting has the same defense mechanism.

Haha I've been planning for a bubble coral since before I ever started Fishkeeping.
I have the perfect location for it, and ill probably end up feeding it more than my fish.

Speaking of food where can you buy raw shrimp and fish meat to give to corals?
And do torch corals eat? Mine doesn't for some weird reason.

And if anyone has ever had tiger pods in their tanks are they ok for mandarins?

Everything is doing good, I'm still skeptical about that star fish, unfortunately named Patrick, I won't be happy until its been a month haha

5.5 is crawling with pods, pretty cool considering the only animals in there are asternias and a bristleworm. I'm thinking of just keeping it with nothing for now but if anything ill add that squat lobster since they are pretty undemanding out of all the other stock options. But maybe after I find a job in march and actually have money to spend ill be updating on the pico more.

Hopefully I will be getting another one or two things along with the bubble, because of really hate to pay 40$ worth of shipping for one coral haha, need to offset the costs.
One of the corals may be an acan, and by the looks of it it seems there is a head in a less than advantageous location, if I do get it I'm thinking of dragging that guy out after a week of recovering from shipping and putting it in my pico for more flair.

So yeah, pictures after I get the new stuff next Wednesday.

ooooo, squat lobster, those are cool. :D

I've got a ton of pods too. Dunno why? I just do.

^ along with those two questions I have another one.

Just exactly what colors do actinic and LEDs highlight?
I know they highlight green and either yellow or Orange but does anybody else know other colors or how to get the colors to "pop" ?

Also, up to two corals so far. I'm going to try to aim for two more but my frustration may get the best of me haha.

I met Dr. G. the other day. Super nice guy. He's the one that sells the bottled copepods. I believe they are ok for Mandarins. I just added a bottle to both pico refugiums. I've got pods, but I want more pods.

I don't have a torch coral so I can't answer that one. I just use frozen food which I get at the local fish store.

I think they highlight anything that isn't blue. I know all the colors I have pop more with a higher color temp bulb. What color temperature are you running now. I know Nemo has a special combination in her bulbs and her colors are great. I just run the one Metal Hallide, so I really can't manipulate color temperature as much.

Yeah its weird I have a ton of pods in both tanks and the mandarin is still skinny. But the thing is tueybarent that big so maybe he isn't being too successful at catching them. I was thinking that since they are like neon Orange and visible without squinting he might have a better time.
I was also thinking about adding live mysis shrimp into the sump as well, but my concern is that, along with a leopard wrasse and a mandarin or two (my guys a male)
That if mysis also eat pods that there qjt be enough in the sump to replace what's in the main.

What do you mean by frozen food? Like brine/mysis?
Because I know people feed their corals with chunks of fish, squid, or clam meat. And it would avoid the clownfish from stealing it.

As for lights, I know we've got two 65k and two actinics but other than that I don't know and I can't be bothered to check since I have to take the hood off, the light off, take 10 minutes to unscrew, and then put everything back haha.

tanks are doing great and the new corals are pretty cool
the lobo brain (the red one) isnt looking too hot
and as far as i know it stopped sending out tentacles at night, i think it might be the conch bothering it.

but anyway here are some pictures

hey guys the red spot glass cardinals arrived today!
i stuck them in the 20 gallon because they are literally this big

[ small fish ]

pictures tomorrow so they can settle some more

and i actually tried to feed them some frizen brine, most of it was too big for them but what they could eat they devoured.
im keeping them in the 20 to pump them up and figure out a decent amount of food to give them every day (along with weekly water changes i guess)

might have to either give them pellets or cyclopeeze sooner or later, im going to go easy on the feeding considering theres almost no rock in there (3 pounds at most, plus a 20 gallon filter) so we shall see.

the only issue i have is that when i got home one of them was acting a bit dozy in the bag (they were bagged individually) but they are all colored up and schooling very nicely.

so probably my next expenses would have to be on a algae eating something for the pico, more internet frags, squat lobster, and maybe do a combine order with my friend. this wont be for a while though, the fish stuck me in the red by about 40$ and i wont be able to do much until i get more money.

the 20 though, is definatley going to have to be turned into a frag/ baby fish tank

and as a side project, im going to construct a tumblr for any eventual RSGC (red spot glass cardinals) or any other spawnings.

hey Gab, Tank is looking great.

I will refrain from making a similar comment about your tang as you did about mine.. hahaha..
all kidding aside though, looking Good.

How are your neon tetras doing?

As far as bulb colors, generally actinic and blue bulbs will accentuate blues/greens but it will fluoresce any color if the color is capable of doing so. In my opinion, blues (rather than actinics which are more purple) do a better job at this. I have a red wave bulb and that makes red/orange color range pop like crazy.
