1st Proper Bash At A Planted Tank! Update! 15/05/07

Mine seems fine, was recommended by another member here who also uses it with DIY. You don't get full bubble coverage of the ceramic disc but my levels are almost the same as when I was using the Nutrafin ladder....actually, given that I'm no longer using the Nutrafin ladder you can have it if you're interested? I only took it out because it was a bit big for my 15-gallon.

 Oh yes please! That would be very kind of you :)

How much do you want for it ?

Thanks so much :)

Richie

Do you know your CO2 level? This is the only way to know if your current method of adding CO2 is sufficient.

I put a red tiger lotus inmy 15-gallon when I set it up new. 1wpg, no CO2, purely JBL AquaBasis Plus below the gravel and *cough* Tetra Plantamin. The thing went nuts, it was a stunning plant, but way too big for mine in the long term.

Yep, I kept it in my Juwel Vision 180 with 1WPG, no CO2, no fertilisers, an inch layer of 1cm grained size pea gravel and the thing flourished, producing new areial leaves every couple of days, I had to prune it loads! Clearly a plant which deserves more thought for hardiness.

Mike

So Tiger lotus sounds like a good idea for my tank then?

Thanks

Nothing, I'll stick it in a jiffy bag and post it, shouldn't cost more than a 1st class stamp. Only fair, someone else is sending me their old Nutrafin cannister for free so I guess it's Karma :)

Have a look for a permanent CO2 test though, it'll help keep an eye on your levels.

My tiger lotus was amazing at 1wpg, they don't need much light, just prune/cut the longer stems if you want to keep it 'small'.

Thats real kind man !

So you dont want anything at all ?

Guess i PM u my address then ?

Richie

Not worth charging for it, a bit of plastic in a useful shape really :)

:hyper:

Just order 10 Hygrophila Polysperma and 1 Tiger Lotus

We'll see how this goes lol

Should have them next week sometime and by then ill have my nutrafin ladder thanks to nry !

Everything seems to be going great today ... somethings bound to go wrong hehe!

Thanks

Richie

Wow congratulations Richie, your thread seems popular and busy. :)
To divide a stem plant just simply pluck the plant into two and replant the two to get two new plants. :)
Hope to see your new plants soon...

Hehe thanks Luc

Only reason it seems busy is because i keep nagging people lol

Hahaha!

Thinking of being a HOB filter :)

Ironic haha!

Earlier i said everything was going so well today and that something must go wrong ....

Well IT JUST HAS !

I was mucking around in my tank and decided to pull up my plants as they are hardly even rooted and repostion them and also while i was at it get rid of dead leaves etc !

But Now all i have done is agitated the subsrate and the tank is all horrible and cloudy the sand has lots of the tetra complete showing through and everythings just horrible

Im really regretting using light coloured sand with the tetra complete underneath it lol!

I have removed my co2 until i get this hagen ladder from nry (should be tomorrow or saturday)

Ill then do a 50% water change (get rid of cloudiness if not gone already)

Then hook up c02 etc and then LEAVE IT lol!

Im just jibbering on now!

Sorry lol!

Any suggestions for me at all ?

Richie

Sorry about the tank, must be annoying.

In fishkeeping a mistake can be made when you do TOO much, and change things that were already doing fine.

Yeah i know :( It sucks!

I now plan on just covering every inch of the tank lol

So that most of the substrate is covered

Means you cant see the horrible black patches

Thanks

Good, a tank full to the brim with plants looks great IMO.

Hehe! Yeah i wuite like it too!

So when i get the rest of my plants next week

plant them and leave them

Any update?

Erm not really re-done the tank ..

At the back where the plants are planted there is gravel at the top sp when i pull out plants etc the tetra complete doesnt come out and mix with the sand!

And at the front i have sand :)

Ill get some pictures later and its a bit easier to understand haha!

thanks

Richie
