i know u said u couldn't change the tank now but how aout this, were the "wier" is at the top corner of the tank would it be possable to put in an extra peice of glass thats say 1" above and 1" below the waterline, that goes across infront of the outflow, so that not so much surface water...

if ur trying to do what i think u are, just make sure that the pump won't set up a syphon or u'll end up with an empty tank or a flood

i have a cheap tank heater set to 20 c that goes into a 10 galon ish bucket with a spare powerhead and some declorinator and gets left over night or till it's needed then i empty the tank to the same level and let the new water syphon in though some bigger than normal tube takes about 20...

i had the same problem with my canister sucking in the bits of plant the tinfoil pulled off and totaly blocking it, try getting a piece of sponge like ppl use to make filters and put a piece of this over the inlet so it dispurses the flow better

any one want one it's abour 3" long but i can't even catch it to get in into the tank with the big boys

i've got one in 2 tanks there just easy cus u can just whip em over the tank every few days and stop it getting unsightly still need to do a propper clean ever now and then but on the whole looks better

i've just added a canister to the 4ft and it sucks a fair old amount in, but the little strainer u get just clogs with plant matter from the tinfoil barb, so i swapped it for a big block of foam so there's no major suck now and the foam catches all the big stuff so the filter don't clog up...

my LFS gets fair busy and it's just a one man band job, all he does if he gets a dead fish is cover up the tank and stop selling from it for a few days to check nothing's gonna follow if u peek in there's often a dead one or 2 in there waiting for closing time he's very good if u get a fish...

also try giving the impeller a spin to kick start it, if there's a weak coil it might be enough once it's got spinning it's hard for the coils to exert a force intil it's spinning away as there trying to turn it backwards a bit too

if u have a dremmel then the flat cutting disks work well or better still you can get a cheap minicraft i think dimond dust cutting wheel there rubbish the "dimond" lasts about 10 seconds but it's a real thin toothless disk after so it's brill for melting plastics

i had the same in my 4ft tank running under gravals with 2 power heads caused to much flow so i used some plastic conduit, adjusted it to fit the power head outlets sqashed the opposite end shut and make loads of holes in the rest of it so the water shoots out all over the place...
