stands

i've just built one out of angle iron cus the wood would take up too much space luckily i know a good welder so cost nothing to weld up, £21 for the metal to make a stand 30" high 36 X 18 with plywood top, and ready for another deck later, also i've got shelves under to house all the fish crap like canister filter

Very nice, welding one was an option but i think the metal would of cost more, plus it would mean welding on carpet!! not good.

Well the stands stood stong for well over a week, it's a bit of an ass to do maintanance on the sump but luckily that won't need to be done often, I may have to maybe the beams under neath more "hit your head on it" friendly.

just added the second level to mine now so far it's cost £33 for metal and i think the ply was £16 but i've got over hald left.
it's got 3ft *15*18 on the first level about 3ft high then the second is a 32*15*18 the trick is the gap that i have to get the tanks into is 37*20 so there wouldn't be space to use timber anyway

Thanks for the comment.

Very nice stand yourself.

Just FYI for those who plan on makeing stands of there own, Sheatheing the sides in plywood increases the strength of the stand exponentially, Plywood is very shear resistant and when you sheathe with it it is like an infinit number of very small cross braces and it really cuts down on the torsion (twisting/bending) pressures which the pilars have very little strength to resist.
