What temp is your tank? I can almost gaurantee that you have had fry in there before and just over looked them. They are extremely small when born and if not saved, most if not all will be eaten.

That doesn't really sound how your snail should lay eggs. Inca snails usually lay eggs right above the water level in a massive clump. Can you describe the "Strings" better? A pic would really help.

Platys are an unusual bunch when it comes to aggresivness. It seems that the more platys you have, the more spaced out the aggression will be. I would at least get 2 more females.

In all truthfullness, fry should be kept in a tank alone. In my years of breeding livebearers I have learned that no matter how you use a trap, things can go wrong. A simple 10 gallon with sponge filter works wonders for fry.

They could have been dead or still have yolksacks. Sometimes if the female isn't exactly full term, she can birth some fry with yolksacks still attached. Sometimes they pull through.
