Sold to me from a reputable place as a Geophagus mumble mumble... couldn't understand them. Said they were rare and that they end up with a blue sheen all over them.

Either way.. I wasn't bothered and have taken the litte beauty anyway to see how he gets on. Only around 2" in length, if that.

I'm thinking it's either a Geophagus Itapicuruensis or a Acarichthys Heckelii. What says you? If it's the former, I will get 5 more.

Not a Brasiliensis as they were in another tank and these were from a private breeder... cause the first thing I asked was if it was one of them.

looks like a geophagus brasiliensis juvi to me

That was my first guess in the shop too, but he says otherwise. No reason not to believe him as meant to be pretty clued up. I'll try calling again later and see if I can understand him this time.. only thing is he talks for ages

I think it is a geophagus altifrons juvi. To me, the bright blues in it are a giveaway.

Its def a brasiliensis variant/type geo species. I'd guess Geophagus' sp. "Bahia Red

I was just looking at them! Looks very much like them, but then, it looks like a few others too....

Hoping to speak to him soon, so will report back what he says, then see if that is any help.

Im not sure to be honest if it is part of the Brasiliensis complex. Looks more like one of the Gymnogeophagus but as to which one I am not sure....

None of the above, or the ones I first said

It's a Geophagus Iporangensis which he says you rarely see, but he got them from a breeder in Manchester. Gonna go get another 5 or so tomorrow and try get a pair or two :hyper:

which is a fish in the 'Brasiliensis complex' ;)

But... stays small, no bigger than 4.5"

Yes, they are quite rare those and stay small for geos, maxing out at about 6 inches from what I've read. Good find :good:

oops - my bad. HGS1981 is right at 4.5"

Definately going to pick up another 5 or so tomorrow then, providing she hasn't fleeced my account! Fingers crossed he will do me a good deal... might mean he gets my F1 Chromidotilapia Guntheri fry which have bred already, then.

I am starting breeding on a larger scale (For me.. as in not the main tank!) so something a little rarer, reasonable size and easy to offload is what I am looking for. Hopefully these guys fit that bill too.. though I am not sure of the demand. The Guntheri I have buyers lined up for and they are only a week old and two shop owners said they will take a regular supply also. :good: Probably looking for around 6 different species in total, so will put a thread up sometime about that.. see what people reccomend and then find out if I can get any.

Thanks for the help, as I didn't think I would ever understand what he was saying! I was already set on it being a "Bahia Red" and was expecting him to confirm it on the phone, but he spelt the rest out.
