Clean out the filter, do frequent water changes, and decrease the lighting. As said before it should clear up in a week or two, decreasing the lighting will help A LOT.

Stick with API stress coat, as said before products that claim to "remove" ammonia typically do not work too well or are harmful to your tank.

If it is a smaller tank I would suggest getting a group of otos (3-5), although they do better in a planted tank. If it is a larger tank I would suggest getting a rubbernose or bristlenose pleco.

Good tank mates for oscars are other new world Cichlids, plecos, bichirs, and sometime black knife fish. It depends on how aggressive the oscar is, it differs from specimen to specimen. I have an oscar, jack dempsey, sengal bichir, and green terror together, they get along fine.
