Hey all, my names kieran and im a noob in fish keeping haha
Yesterday i was given a full set up for free and today i've cleaned it and set it up.
I've added the water, added the gravel, treated the water with 'nutrafin aqua plus' and 'nutrafin cycle', set up the heater and filter.
My friend has told me to wait 2 weeks and to take some of the water for testing at a pet shop. If the levels are right then add some tetras.
Is this right?
Also i dont know if positioning of the filter and heater matters but heres was it looks like...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You'll need to cycle the tank either fishlessly or fish in, please read the topics that are pinned in this section an see which one suites you best.

Your friend is incorrect, more then likley the cycle stuff you bought will do nothing but have wasted your money wont do any harm either besides to your wallet. Check this out and read up on it http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/ youll find everything you need to know there. Any more questions dont hesitate to ask. :good:

I've read through the 'Fish-in' cycle but it doesnt say when to put the fish in... Putting some in tomorrow seems a bit rushy.
And thanks for all the replies so quickly..
Much appreciated :D

you could put the fish in now, it doesn't make a difference, just make sure you keep on top of water changes

I recommend fishless if its your first time though, but I did fish in first time with no problems. and I have done them ever since.

To do fish-in im guessing i need to get my own test kit?

yes, for both fish in and fishless you need a test kit, are you in the UK? if so buy the salifert ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH test kits, if you're in the US then go with the API master test kit for freshwater.
