i concur with Essjay above however i like seeing algae forming during any cycle (been a long time since ive ever done a full fishless cycle spare filter media in all my tanks to make sure i dont need to). having algae growing tells me im well on my way to being ready for fish

is there such a thing? im looking at upgrading the filter on my main tank which is a shallow 4 ft one currently running an aquavital avex1000. once the avex has new seals it will still be perfectly serviceable. is it over kill to use on a 2ft tank?

mums water is testing 0mg/l in morning will do 50% then another 50% to bring levels down

why not use an atx psu or even a laptop psu 19v at 5a is around 100w allowing power for 20 3w leds with ample to stop it running at full tilt

tap water has rather high ammonia acording to my test coming back at around 3mg/l

no ammonia removal media in filter. sadly lfs is shut now so in morning ill do another 50% change and retest tomorrow after noon just hope everything survives the night. will do tap water test now.

just done a big water change on my 4ft tankdone a water test a few hours after and noticed my ammonia level is now through the roof 4mg/l according to my test kit. dont fancy doing another big waterchange is there anything else i can do to protect my fish

for a first visit avoid bas for the time being its undergoing a major refurbishment at the moment but it is still open. 90% of my stock is from bas. i think they're going back to the old name of dave's though

you might want to either go again or do a fish in cycle with a few danios. dont use bleach ever in a tank. if your going fishless cycle go to 4ppm and try and get your hands on some mature filter media either from lfs or from a member on here on the list

i know its not a good filter but has anyone tried to improve it.im thinking theres a heck of a lot of space inside the body with not much in it was going to fill it with either gravel or bio media so ive got the two sponges at the bottom and a load of collonized gravel surely this would improve it

the way id do it personally is put some extra media in the first filter leave it till you get your new tank and put it in the new filter when you set your new tank up. if you fit the fx5 it will basically take the filtration over and effectively kill the aquaone bacteria. and you cant link the...

why not use aquarium sealer to fit it to the back wall

you start a siphon down into the canister and pump the water back into the tank but it would need to be sealed or youd drain your tank onto the floor
